MEMBER'S RESPONSIBILITIES AND CODE OF CONDUCT

The Nakiska Alpine Ski Association and its member clubs aim to provide exceptional training and racing programs to athletes at all levels. Our programs are athlete centred, coach driven and parent/administration supported. Each party athlete, coach, parent and administrator plays a key role in the operation of our programs. A code of conduct has been developed for all of the above parties and a coordinated team effort is required for the best possible operation of our programs.
Athlete Responsibilities: 1. Participate and commit fully to the training and racing plan as designed by the coaching staff (dryland, on-snow, equipment, diet, rest, etc.) giving 100% to the achievement of their personal advancement plan. 2. Communicate with the coaches on all aspects of the program and plan and respect the decisions of the coaching staff. 3. Behave in a manner that brings credit to themselves, the team and program. Nakiska Alpine Ski Association athletes shall be known as the best on and off the hill. 4. Show courteous and cooperative behaviour to all coaches, gatekeepers, parents, officials, employees, and customers of all ski areas and other venues during training and competition. 5. Refrain from the use of profane language or directing profane language toward anyone at any time

6. Respect, properly use and refrain from abuse of ski area and other venue equipment and facilities. Refrain from stealing equipment or property belonging to anyone else 7. Endeavour to maintain a clean and neat appearance at all times so as to promote myself, the team, and the community. Wear team uniforms and insignia with pride whenever directed by the coaching staff 8. Obey the Skiers Responsibility Code at all times. When free skiing, the athlete will always be under control and at a safe speed so as not to scare or endanger other skiers. Athletes must obey all posted mountain signs and all verbal or written instructions received from the ski patrol, coaches and/or ski area employees. 9. Show respect for others by always storing skis and other gear in an appropriate place. 10. Refrain from consuming alcohol, using illegal drugs, abusing prescription drugs and use of banned performanceenhancing drugs or supplements at any time whilst being a member of NASA and its member club(s) 11. Understand and accept that any damage caused, directly or indirectly, is the athletes responsibility as is reimbursement of property owners, hotel or motel operators, ski areas, or ski clubs for any loss(es) incurred. 12. Respect and honour any and all other policies which may be developed and communicated by the club administration or coaching staff. Parent Responsibilities: 1. Look out for their childs best interests as they enter, participate in and exit from the sport. 2. Monitor their own expectations of their childs performance and progress, realizing that athletes who feel they cannot meet their parents expectations may quickly lose motivation. 3. Communicate in a respectful manner with the program directors, coaches and administrators as needed on all aspects of the program(s).

In the case of program or coaching concerns, communicate first to the program director(s) who will guide the resolution process. arents will refrain from taking program/coaching concerns directly to the coach or interrupting the training plan. 5. Commit to the specified fundraising activities that form part of the overall program. Handle any and all financial obligations to the club, association and the ski community in a timely and complete manner. 6. Communicate to coaches or program directors on any personal needs or changes happening in the athletes personal life that may affect performance and behaviour. 7. Respect and honour any and all other policies which may be developed and communicated by the club administration or coaching staff. Coach Responsibilities: 1. Coach the athletes in a logical sequence and use all development tools available. 2. Commit 100% to the program and personal achievement of all athletes. 3. Communicate with athletes on any and all aspects of their personal goals. 4. Communicate with parents on appropriate aspects of the team and individual athlete programs. 5. Set the example and behave in accordance with the athletes code of conduct (above) as well as the Canadian Ski Coaches Federation and Canadian Ski Instructors Alliance code of ethics and principles. 6. Represent the best interest of all athletes. Administration Responsibilities: 1. Ensure that the program(s) is/are well defined and understood by all parties and is available in a written outline form. 2. Employ a capable and respected team of professional coaches to direct all programs.

3. Promote, foster and develop the program philosophy for the betterment of all athletes. 4. Conduct the affairs of the club(s) in an ethical and financially responsible manner. Athletes, parents, coaches and the administration must all agree to the above responsibilities and understand that the NASA and member clubs Board of Directors have developed this code of conduct to promote and protect the teams, the ski areas, and the community. All parties agree that any infringement of the above Code of Conduct responsibilities is grounds for disciplinary action in the form of a punishment period or dismissal for the remainder of the season as detailed below: The club will advise the athlete or other party when there is a problem and state specifically the nature of the problem and which Code of Conduct responsibility has been violated. Up to three warnings (dependent upon age, situation) will be delivered regarding the behaviour. If the problem persists after the warnings, a meeting with the athlete, parent(s), program director(s), and coach(es) will ensue. A plan will be developed to assist and monitor the party with the desired behaviour. Regular progress reports will be made to all parties. Should the undesired behaviour persist, the club has, at their discretion, several options: disallow further training/racing for that athlete on that day, a longer suspension from the program, or expulsion from the program. Parties who wish to further discuss/ appeal the clubs decision will meet with a committee appointed by the NASA and/or member club Executive.
