Objective : To sensitize the students and staff of Toc-H Public School on the concepts
of global warming, green house effects, CO2 emissions and ozone depletion.
The Environment Club conducted various activities during the academic year to make
them aware of the necessity of conservation of environment, reducing CO2 emissions and
a combination of improved energy efficiency and alternative energy as solutions to global
warming. A major step to negotiate a world wide agreement in reducing green house
emissions and limiting the impact of global warming in the form of the KYOTO
PROTOCOL was also introduced to the participants. These activities also honed the
organizing skills of the members of the Environment Club.

Evaluation: Scrolls were evaluated by a jury of Subject experts intra school and from
outside. Students Feed Back were collected. Members of the Student audience of the film
show were asked to speak in the school assembly.
Global warming is one of the most controversial scientific issues of the 21st century
challenging the very structure of our global society. The problem is that global warming
is not just a scientific concern, but encompasses economics, sociology, geopolitics, local
politics and individuals’ choice of lifestyle. Global warming is caused by the increase in
Global temperature because of industrialization, climate change, deforestation, unethical
corporate practices and so on. Through this activity the students’ mind and spirit
awakened to the necessity of preserving our physical heritage against these challenges for
the sake of our future generations.

Global warming has potentially devastating effects on human society including drastic
changes in health, agriculture, economy, water resources, coastal regions, storms and
other extreme climate events and bio-diversity. The student members of the Environment
club presented data on Global Warming as a weekly event. The slides in the Power Point

FILM SHOW–AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH BY AL GORE
BRIEF REPORT

The Environment Club members organized a film show of Al Gores movie, An


Inconvenient Truth. This film revealed to us to the passion and commitment of the
director to the issues of climate changes and global warming. This was a gratifying
experience both for the organizers and the audience.
SYNOPSIS OF THE DOCUMENTARY FILM ON
GLOBAL WARMING BY AL GORE
“Wake up mankind – ‘Tis NOW or NEVER!”

Yesterday, thanks to the Environmental Club, some of us had the opportunity to witness a
very illuminating session on Global Warming. It started off with Mr. George Kutty, the
Chief Guest, demonstrating various non-conventional methods in which we can bring
about conservation of energy. After that, there was a documentary film on Global
Warming presented by none other than the famous Al Gore. It was so interesting that,
though quite a common topic that it was, we listened to it with full attention.

It was so startling, rather frightening to see the devastating change global warming has
brought about, in countries like Switzerland, which is not what it was in 1978.

The one and half hour movie, complete with causes, problems and solutions to the
problem of global warming concluded with a very meaningful cartoon symbolic of the
human nervous system. The cartoon was about a frog which when kept in boiling water,
jump out as quick as it can, but when it’s in the beaker before boiling, even after the
water boils and the temperature is at the peak, it doesn’t take notice of its approaching
death. Only if someone rescues it, can it’s life be saved. Think about it. Compare ti with
your mind……

Sincerely appreciating the efforts of the Environment Club and thanking the teachers who
had arranged for this thought – provoking session, I conclude my words.

The details on the movie and the Director later found place as the theme of the Yellow
Saphire House’s Bulletin Board. A copy of the display items are given below:
SCROLL MAKING
The students made a scroll on themes like the Dying Earth, Green House Effect, Ozone
Depletion etc. and displayed it during the film show. This was evaluated by the external
subject experts, Mr. Georgekutty and the Art teachers in the school. The photographs of
the scroll and the scroll making activity are given below.

OF ENERGY SAVING LED LUMINAIRS
Brief Description and Product Details
This activity also initiated by the Environment Club members and the Std. XI students
were involved. Initially Mr. Georgekutty came to the school on the day of the Film Show
and interacted with the students and explained to them the need for the use of energy
saving luminairs in our day to day life. He also introduced the students to some of the
energy saving projects like Led Nion Flexible Lights which his company manufacturing.
To boost energy conservation awareness programme he gave each students a form for
entering the details of their month wise electricity bills incurred by their households so
that they can think of adopting strategies for reducing it.
PROFILE OF THE PROPRIETOR
Georgekutty Kariyanappally B.Com graduate worked with multinational Swiss firm
Transcontinental Corporation for 22 years in their Middle East Operation.

He worked with Rashtra Deepika Newspaper as General Manager for one year. He was
the Managing Director of Kalabhavan Studios Ltd., Cochin for 4 years.

Mr. Georgekutty started his own venture Lifeway Solar in the year 2002. However he
registered with Registrar of Companies, Ernakulam in June 2003. He visited more than
18 countries and attended Renewable Energy Seminars and Exhibitions in Far East,
Europe and USA.

He is also the founder Secretary of Kerala Renewable Energy Entrepreneurs and


Promoters Association (KREEPA)

He was the chairman in Rotary International District 3200 for Solar Energy utilization
project in the year 2006-2007 and again selected as Director of the same project in the
current Rotary Year 2007-2008.
