How to Print the eBook

I cant cover every possibility, but here are the steps you need to take to create a correctly
paginated copy of the eBook on your computers printer:

1. Start Acrobat Reader (Im assuming version 6.x in these examples).
2. Open the eBook file you want to print.

3. Select Print from the File menu.
4. In the dialog box that appears, you need to deal with two things: (1) Make sure that
the Page Scaling option is set to None (this formats the eBook as a conventional
paperback size of 5.5x8.5); if you want larger type, set this option to Fit to Paper,
which will scale the eBook to the size of your printers paper. (2) Make sure that
the Subset option in the Print Range area is set to Odd pages only if you want
to print the eBook on both sides of the paper (well add the other side in a later
step). If your printer has the ability to directly print on both sides of the paper, that
usually requires you to click on the Properties button and set advanced options
for your printeryoure on your own with that one, as every printer driver is
different. Here, I assume that you have a printer that doesnt handle duplex printing
directly. If ink cartridges are an issue, you also might want to check the Print color
as black box, as color ink cartridges will get used heavily for the graphics in the
book.

5. Click OK to start the printing.
6. Now you have a stack of paper on which the odd pages have been printed, and its
time to put it back into the printer to print the even pages. Heres the part where
youll have to do some experimentation with your printer, as each printer handles
paper a bit differently. For example, on my laser printer, I have to reverse stack the
paper after printing the odd pages. If you dont know what you need to do, try
printing just the first 10 pages of the eBook and testing this paper handling step
until you get it right. Page 2 should be on the back of Page 1, Page 4 on the back of
Page 3, and so on.
7. Assuming you have reoriented the paper properly, select Print from the File menu
again.
8. This time make sure that Even pages only is selected under Subset. All your
other settings should be the same as the first pass.
9. Click OK to start the printing.
10. Keep your fingers crossed. What you dont want to happen is a paper jam during
the second pass, as that sometimes means everything gets so messed up you have
to do another first pass.
11. Depending upon your printer, you may still need to do some paper handling
chores. On my laser printer, I have to reverse stack the paper a second time to
collate the pages correctly.
12. Take the resulting stack of pages to your local copy shop (Kinkos, Staples, etc.) and
have them trim and bind it.
