Lydeard St Lawrence Cricket Club Update February 2014 AGM The cricket Club of Lydeard St Lawrence recently had its AGM on the 27th January at the New Inn, Halse. The club appointed Mark Hannaford to Captain the First X1 for 2014 with vice Captain as Nathan Hill. This year there will be an official 2nd X1 team with Howard Pearson being the Captain and Lucy Turner being Vice Captain. Mid week friendlies ( 20 over matches) will be jointly organised by Tom Meek and Tom Bennett. The under 11s will be coached by Phil Luxton and the under 13s by Simon Ruell. Indoor nets will commence at Taunton School on 3rd/10/17 April at 18.30pm and the 23rd April and 1st May at 19.30pm. All welcome. Thursday nights at the Ground will be dedicated to Practice and coaching and using the new artificial nets. A new Chairman, Phil Greenway has been elected to take over from Hugh Lloyd Jones who has stepped down, and a new Committee and Social Committee has been appointed to look after the club and its facilities and social events. A big Thank you was given to Simon Cattell, who is very much reducing his activities with his new job in Berlin, who has achieved so much in his 10 years at the club. Well done.

The New Facilities Much is happening at the club at the moment and we are using our Grant income of 48,000 from Sport England to try and get as much done as possible. A new artificial Wicket has now been laid and looks fantastic. This should really help on those wetter days to play good cricket and help the juniors with better stroke play given the more even bounce. With part of the strip left over, the contractors have also laid a strip for practice and coaching with a new frame and net by the pavilion. Luxury! Changes are also happening quickly now with the pavilion. Despite the awful weather which has turned the top of the field into a quagmire, much has already been done to the pavilion. It is hoped this work will be all finished before the first match on the 3rd May. The clubhouse itself has been extended to the rear and will have new changing rooms and showers, and internal Gents and ladies toilets. The front verandah has been considerably enlarged, and on completion there will be a new roof and the whole building will be clad in timber. In addition the entrance to the field will be improved as will the parking areas. I will keep you posted.
