Furnaces Types

Box furnace The box furnace is ruggedly simple and conservative in design, which makes this type of furnace very versatile and trouble-free. These units are built with a heavy gage steel shell and low watt density heating elements along with lightweight ceramic fiber insulation making these furnaces and ovens suitable for any laboratory or industrial application. Box furnaces are available in many configurations that include single zone or multiple zone heated chambers and temperature ranges up to 1010C, 1204C, 1538C, or 1700C (1850F, 2200F, 2800F, or 3092F). Options include pneumatic door openers, view ports, sealed chamber with ports for atmosphere control, heated doors, quench tanks, automation, standard controls and PLC controls, just to mention a few. Pit furnace A compartment furnace used in machine building for the heat treatment of large metal items. Pit furnaces may be round, square or rectangular and are covered by a detachable, expanding, or movable roof. Loading and unloading operations are performed by means of a bridge crane. Bell Furnace Its a batch-operated heat-treatment furnace in which products are heated under a movable dome. It is used for heat treatment of sheet and light-section rolled products in a controlled gaseous medium. Bell furnaces are classified according to use (treatment of coils of narrow strip, sheets, rods, and so on). The most common bell furnaces are the single-stack and multistack types used for annealing coils of cold-rolled steel strip. Elevator furnace Its a heat-treating batch furnace that differs from a bell furnace in that it has a stationary heating bell and a charging stand that is raised to the bell. After the heat treatment has been completed, the stand is lowered to the level of the shop floor, and the work pieces are unloaded. Salt-Bath furnace Salt-bath furnaces are characterized by rapid heat transfer and outstanding temperature uniformity. Salt-bath furnaces operate with temperatures of up to 1000 C and warm bath furnaces operate with temperatures of up to 500 C. Fluidized beds A cushion of air or hot gas blown through the porous bottom slab of a container which can be used to float a powdered material as a means of drying, heating, quenching, or calcining the immersed components. Induction heating Method of raising the temperature of an electrically conductive material by subjecting it to an alternating electromagnetic field. Energy in the electric currents induced in the object is dissipated as heat. Induction heating is used in metalworking to heat metals for soldering, tempering, and annealing, and in induction furnaces for melting and processing metals. The principle of the induction-heating process resembles that of the transformer. A water-cooled coil (inductor), acting as the primary winding of a transformer, surrounds the material to be heated

(the work piece), which acts as the secondary winding. Alternating current flowing in the primary coil induces eddy currents in the work piece, causing it to become heated. The depths to which the eddy currents penetrate, and therefore the distribution of heat within the object, depend on the frequency of the primary alternating current and the magnetic permeability, as well as the resistivity, of the material. Atmospheric The furnace casing consists of a sturdy sheet steel structure. The light-weight refractory lining inside the furnace is designed for temperatures well above the working temperature. Throughout all stages of the heat-treatment process, this optimized furnace design ensures: * Even heat transfer throughout the entire workspace. * High efficiency heating elements or recuperative gas fired burners for low energy cost. * Field proven automation and control systems for maximum performance.

Other benefits include: Fully engineered systems with flexible control and automation packages. Easy replacement of the SIC muffle by a tongue and groove system. Double-wall oil bath with a leakage sensor in accordance with industry codes. Charge transfer in baskets without special skids or roller rails. Long service life of the charging system designed for pushing only. Entrance and exit door openings with minimal loss of heat and atmosphere.
