We have already started our one major fund raiser, the Tom Wat sale. This will help
us raise money to help send students to the district, state and national meetings and to
cover our community service activities.
Our Community service activities so far are: making and selling pink ribbon cookies
to support Breast Cancer Awareness, making Christmas stockings for the Student
Council to have filled, and saving pull tabs for the Ronald McDonald House.
Upcoming events will be an overnight stay at the Circle C Ranch in Delevan for
leadership training on October 30-31 and an after school meeting to participate in the
national Step one program.
Our members will also be starting their STAR Events projects this month. This is a
judged presentation that students can do at the March state meeting and earn the right
to go to national meeting, which will be held in Chicago.

EARTH SCIENCE
We have just finished studying the Earth in general from its measurements to
mapping. This includes latitude and longitude as well as using a compass and GPS.
We will now dig into the composition of our planet by studying rocks and minerals and
after that, the forces at work inside the Earth. This will include the study of earthquakes
and Plate Tectonics.
If you have a child in Earth Science please encourage him/her to do all the daily
work and stay caught up. It is very important that all practice work be done so that the
final assessments for each unit are the best ones possible. Playing catch-up is never a
good strategy for any course of study. We all want our students to do the very best that
they can.
Happy Fall!!!

common questions
Myth: If I notice my hearing has changed and do
not do anything about it, things will just stay as they
are.
LIVING and REHABILITATION
Fact: Your ears connect to your brain and your
brain is where you process sounds and can tell the
difference between words. If your hearing is diminished
then your brain is taking in less information. Over time
the brain will forget that information and not process it.
The sooner you reintroduce the auditory input back into
your brain, usually with hearing aids, the more
seamless the rehabilitation because the brain
remembers the sound.
Myth: Wearing hearing aids is a sign of old age and
impairment.
Fact: Actually, your hearing loss is probably a more
noticeable sign of old age. Always asking “what?” in
conversations, avoiding phone conversations and social
gatherings is more apparent than wearing small
