PetroTechniks UPP Extra pipe with its nylon permeation barrier meets both the UKs Energy Institute and USAs UL971 specications for non-metallic underground fuel pipework in addition to major oil companies in-house specication (see separate catalogue for UL approved pipework).

Pipe Description: UPP systems is an underground piping system for hydrocarbon liquid fuel and vapour transfer manufactured using the latest co-extrusion technology. UPP may be used equally for suction (vacuum) or pressurized systems with fuel dispensers, in addition to pipelines acting at atmospheric pressure (ie. gravity lling lines). Approvals: UPP has received a large number of approvals from worldwide authorities and environment agencies, probably more than any other similar system. The entire UPP product range is independently tested to meet Energy Institute (UK) and Underwriters Laboratories Inc (US) performance standards. In addition, UPP products are continually monitored by the ERA FUELSTAR surveillance scheme set up by third party testing lab, ERA, in conjunction with the Energy Institute and Shell. EN14125 and UL971 approved.

Primary Pipe Construction: Black outer structural layer of the pipe is High Density Polyethylene (HDPE), grade, PE80 or PE100 which allows the use of electrofusion couplers and ttings to construct an innite variety of pipeline congurations. Puncture resistant PE is also resistant to microbial and rodent attack. The intermediate is a tie-layer (adhesive) which permanently bonds the polyethylene layer to the polyamide (nylon) layer The yellow inner barrier layer of UPP Extra pipe is specially formulated fuel proof nylon which displays exceptional resistance to absorption and permeation of both gasoline and alcohol fuel blends. The smooth bore and low friction loss of UPP Extra permit fuel and vapour ows at higher velocities than steel pipework with lower hydraulic losses. UPP utilizes a Standard Dimensional Ratio Design of 11 and is pressure rated to 10 bar (150 psi) at 20C. Rupture pressure is typically 40 bar (600 psi) providing a generous margin of safety. There is no requirement for a concrete trench because fusion welded HDPE pipe has no joints and is structurally resistant to the weight of backll material and dynamic trafc loads. Over 25 years experience shows no pipe failures and no loss into the ground due to product failure
