Group Project Semester 1 2009/2010 This report is treated as a complete design document for the product that you

MEMB113 ENGINEERING GRAPHICS
Project Type
Group Project consists of a maximum of 5 students and a minimum of 3 students per
group. The theme for this semester ~Mechanical Products~ (the product can be real or
fictional). It is preferable if the product has mechanism components.
Instructions
Choose a multi-component product, which contains at least 20 components (excluding
common component such as nut, screw, washer, gasket, and pin). You may choose existing
product, or modify existing product or design a totally new product.
11. Obtain all the necessary measurements of the components. You may also modify the
existing product, or design a new product.
22. Produce isometric sketches or drawing for all components of the product. Also,
produce the isometric assembly sketch/drawing for the product.
3. Generate 3D models and multi-view drawings of all major non-standard components.
(Including some sectional view if necessary)
34. Generate assembly drawing of the product (Including sectional view if necessary).
45. Generate exploded assembly drawing of the product.
56. Generate Bill of Materials for the product.
67. Produce a report per group.
78. Produce the group presentation.
You will use Pro/Engineer to produce your 3D models and the corresponding drawings.
Assessment
This project will contribute 30% of the grade of the subject.
Sketch: 5%
Project Report: 17%
Presentation: 5%
Peer review: 3%
Initial Sketch
The sketch (free-hand) should include the isometric views of:
11. Assembly of the whole product.
22. Exploded assembly
33. All components (individually) of the product.
Marking criteria for the initial sketch/drawing would include the quality and clarity of the
sketch/drawing, the complexity of the product, etc.
Report
It shall consist of sufficient information in term of drawings and explanation in order to
fabricate the product.
The report should consist of:
1. A cover page containing all the name of the group members.
12. A title page containing your company name, name of the product that you are presenting
and all engineers and draught person involve in the design project.
23. Summary of the report.
34. Table of Contents.
45. A brief description of the product and its function (Not more than 2 pages).
56. Detail multi-view drawings of all components (at least 15 drawings).
67. Isometric drawings for all major non-standard components (at least 15 drawings).
78. Assembly and exploded assembly drawing of the product.
89. Bill of Materials.
Marking criteria for the report would include, but not limited to;
11. Quality and presentation of drawings.
22. Quality of product design, creativity and innovation.
34. Write up - product descriptions, functions and how the product is created and drawn.
45. Technical aspect of the product - complexity, manufacturability, functionality, commercial
viability, etc.
56. Quality of the whole document/report – the report layout, arrangement of contents, etc.
Softcopy (files) of the following must be included (preferably in one CD):
1. All part files, assembly files and drawing files (from Pro/E)
2. Presentation and report files (MS Power Point & Word)
Presentation:
Each group is required to present their drawings. The group may use Microsoft Power Point
or any suitable presentation software. Screenshots should be used to illustrate the product.
The main aims of the presentation are to show what has been drawn and how they are
drawn.
The presentation should consist of, but not limited to:
11. Company name, product name, group members.
22. A brief description of the product.
33. Assembly and exploded assembly drawing of the product.
44. Multi-view, sectional views, auxiliary views and/or other views may be included.
Marking criteria for poster presentation would include:
1. Content: Quality, clarity of the drawings, etc.
2. Presentation: Layout, arrangement, style, etc.
3. Presenter: Explanations, and Q&A, etc.

Presentation & submissions of sketches and report: Week 16 (23 October 2009)*
*Those that have finished the project earlier may have presentation earlier by
making appointment with the instructor.
