EYE HATH NOT SEEN

1 Cor 2:9-11 9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of
man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep
things of God.
11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things
of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.

Isa 64:4 For since the beginning of the world men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath
the eye seen, O God, beside thee, what he hath prepared for him that waiteth for him.

I. WILL IT BE IN THIS WORLD OR THE NEXT?

A. The scriptures indicate the latter.
1. Heb 11:16 But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not
ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.

2. John 14:1-3 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my
Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place
for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself;
that where I am, there ye may be also.

B. An analysis of 1 Cor 2:9-11 and Isa 64:4 shows that it must be the latter.
1. If “…eye hath not seen…,” then it cannot be on earth.
2. If only God has seen, it must be in heaven at a future time.

II. WHAT KIND OF PLACE WILL HEAVEN BE?

A. A place of rest.
1. Heb 4:9-11 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. For he that is entered into
his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. Let us labour therefore to
enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.

2. Rev 14:13 And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead
which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours;
and their works do follow them.

B. A place where there is no suffering or pain.

1. Rev 21:3-4 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of
God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall
be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall
be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former
things are passed away.

2. Rev 7:16-17 They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun light on
them, nor any heat. For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall
lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.

C. Heaven will be a place of wondrous beauty.
1. Rev 21:10-25 And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed
me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God,
11 Having the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone,
clear as crystal;
12 And had a wall great and high, and had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names written
thereon, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel:
13 On the east three gates; on the north three gates; on the south three gates; and on the west three gates.
14 And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the
Lamb.
15 And he that talked with me had a golden reed to measure the city, and the gates thereof, and the wall
thereof.
16 And the city lieth foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth: and he measured the city with
the reed, twelve thousand furlongs. The length and the breadth and the height of it are equal.
17 And he measured the wall thereof, an hundred and forty and four cubits, according to the measure of a
man, that is, of the angel.
18 And the building of the wall of it was of jasper: and the city was pure gold, like unto clear glass.
19 And the foundations of the wall of the city were garnished with all manner of precious stones. The first
foundation was jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, a chalcedony; the fourth, an emerald;
20 The fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolite; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, a topaz; the
tenth, a chrysoprasus; the eleventh, a jacinth; the twelfth, an amethyst.
21 And the twelve gates were twelve pearls; every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city
was pure gold, as it were transparent glass.
22 And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it.
23 And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten
it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.
24 And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do
bring their glory and honour into it.
25 And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there.

D. We will have a different body.

1. 1 Cor 15:39-54 All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one kind of flesh of men, another
flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds.
40 There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory
of the terrestrial is another.
41 There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one
star differeth from another star in glory.
42 So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption:
43 It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power:
44 It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual
body.
45 And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening
spirit.
46 Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is
spiritual.
47 The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven.
48 As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are
heavenly.
49 And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.

2
50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth
corruption inherit incorruption.
51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead
shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality,
then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.

III. HOW DO WE GET THERE?

A. Christ is the way.
1. John 14:4-6 And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know. Thomas saith unto him, Lord,
we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way? Jesus saith unto him, I am the
way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

2. Gal 4:6-7 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts,
crying, Abba, Father. Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of
God through Christ.

B. Apparently, we must be in Christ.

1. Eph 2:4-10
4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:
7 That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us
through Christ Jesus.
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained
that we should walk in them.

2. 2 Cor 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed
away; behold, all things are become new.

C. How do we come to be in Christ?

1. Gal 3:27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

2. Rom 6:3-7
3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead
by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his
resurrection:
6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that
henceforth we should not serve sin.
7 For he that is dead is freed from sin.
