I am here to represent Los Angeles which stands third in the GDP development rate in the world One of the

primary facilities that the state has to provide is Health and hygiene. State should take care of the health and hygiene issues. The health facilities provided by the state of LA is ideal and India has got to learn many things

Food security
LA govt. adopted the California Food Handler Card Law All food employees who prepare, store or serve food, must have a California Food Handler Card. This includes, but is not limited to: servers, chefs/ head chefs/ cooks/ head cooks bartenders hosts and hostesses who handle food They even inspect the restaurants regularly and accordingly rate the restaurant Strict actions are taken if the quality is not maintained While the case with india is totally opposite The quality licences are sold by the health department of India A restaurant will easily get the quality certificateeven if the required conditions are not met

Malnutrition
The 2011 Global Hunger Index (GHI) Report ranked India 15th, amongst leading countries with hunger situation. The malnutrition rate in India is extremely high While the state of LA ensures that there are least malnourished children.

High infant mortality rate


Approximately 1.72 million children die each year before turning one.

Poor sanitation
As more than 122 million households have no toilets, and 33% lack access to latrines, over 50% of the population (638 million) defecate in the open.(2008 estimate)

Safe drinking water


Access to protected sources of drinking water has improved from 68% of the population in 1990 to 88% in 2008. However, only 26% of the slum population has access to safe drinking water, and 25% of the total population has drinking water on their premises.

Healthy Way LA
Healthy Way LA(HWLA) is a free public health care program available to underinsured or uninsured, lowincome residents of Los Angeles (LA) County. HWLA helps to narrow the large gap in access to health care among low-income populations by extending health care insurance to uninsured LA County residents living at a certain poverty level. Under the HWLA people are provided with continuous guidance and health related support Even The Indian health care department has these kind of programs but the administration is so corrupt that the real poor never receives the support.

THE STEPS THAT INDIA HAS TO TAKE ARE Increase public expenditure on health. Ensure availability of free essential medicines by increasing public spending on drug procurement Develop a National Health Package that offers, as part of the entitlement of every citizen, essential health services at different levels of the health care delivery system. Significantly heavily on primary health care. Strengthen District Hospitals. Ensure adequate numbers of trained health care providers and technical health care workers at different levels by

Establish District Health Knowledge Institutes where family planning programs are undertaken and people are guided about the same Set up national and state drug supply logistics corporations. Empower the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to strengthen the drug regulatory system. Introduce All India and state level Public Health Service Cadres and a specialized state level Health Systems Management Cadre in order to give greater attention to public health
