Crochet Rudolph the Reindeer Hat Pattern

I have to admit this is hands down my f avorite hat that I have crocheted to date :) I love the addition of the f elt pieces and the way the bottom rim f lips over to create the snout. In an ef f ort to get this pattern to you bef ore Christmas, I have only worked this up in 0-3 months size. But I am conf ident that the ears and antlers will work on the larger hats. T he mouth portion doesn't have a specif ic stitch count (I will explain more below), so that should work f or larger hats as well. Ok, enough talk, here it is! Materials: - Lion Brand Vanna's Choice worsted weight yarn in Honey (f or the main hat) and Beige (f or the snout) - 1 piece of dark brown f elt - 1 piece of white f elt - 1 piece of black f elt - Small amount of poly-f il (to stuf f antlers) - 1 red button

When you have complete the basic hat, you are going to add 3 more rounds in beige to create the snout. Pattern is as f ollows: Reindeer Snout Pattern: Round 1: SC around in new color, join, chain 1 Round 2: SC around until you get to towards the middle of the f ront of the hat. T his is where you are going to make 7 DC stitches (be sure that the 7 DC are centered in the f ront because this is the start of the Reindeer snout), SC the rest of the way around, join to f irst SC. Round 3: Slip stitch around until you get the 7 DC, make another 7 DC, continue to slip stitch around the rest of the hat, join to f irst slip st, f asten of f , weave in ends. Now f lip the "snout" up and f asten it in place with a red button.

Reindeer Ears: - Create two in Honey color using H or J hook (the larger the hook, the bigger the ear). - T hen create two more using an F hook and lighter colored yarn. Sew the smaller pieces into the inside of the ear. T hen sew f inished ears onto hat. Chain 5, SC in 2nd chain f rom hook and the rest of the way down chain, chain 1, turn. Row 2: SC across, chain 1, turn. Row 3: 2 SC in f irst stitch, sc in next 2, 2 SC in last stitch, chain 1, turn. Row 4-5: SC across, chain 1, turn. Row 6: SC decrease, SC in next 2, SC Decrease Row 7: SC across Row 8: 2 SC decreases Row 9: SC decrease Chain 1 and SC around edges, f asten of f and weave in ends.

Reindeer Antlers and Eyes: UPDAT E 11-12-13: I have created a crocheted partner for the antlers and eyes! You can find those patterns HERE. Here is the downloadable template f or the antlers and eyes. You will need to cut out 4 antlers f rom dark brown f elt and one each of the eyes and eyeballs. T he eyes should be cut with white f elt and the eyeballs with black f elt. Rudolph the Reindeer Antlers and Eyes Template I used 2-ply (separate your 4-ply yarn into 2-ply) brown yarn and a small tapestry needle to blanket stitch the f elt antlers together. I stuf f ed them lightly with poly-f il bef ore completely sewing it closed. I sewed them onto the hat, but if you want them to stick straight up, you might try using a pipe cleaner or f loral wire in the antler and wrapped around the area where the antler meets the hat. T he antlers on my hat do f lop over a little when being worn. T he black eyeballs were hand-sewn onto the larger white eye with 2-ply yarn and a tapestry needle using a regular straight stitch. And then the complete eyes were sewn onto the hat at a slight angle. Download a PDF of this pattern HERE Enjoy! Happy Holidays! *** You may make and sell products f rom my patterns but if you do I ask that you link back to my post. Please do not copy and post this pattern and claim it as your own.
