In New England the our land is in between the Atlantic and the mountains . Also our land is good for farming but also rocky to the weather was warm in the winter and chilly in the summer . Our climate is similar to England, too. We have rum, fish, hide, timber, whale and grain and other resources and that is the Geography of New England .Jake Glosson

When I get up every morning I put on a gown over a corset. My favorite breakfast is a divine blueberry scone covered in sugar. After breakfast, I like to take strolls down by my fathers shop. Sometimes I even drop in to say hello, but today I didnt. I walked by a big field filled with every color of horses. Since Im kind of and artist, I just had to draw them. As I walk in the door to grab my sketching pad, I see my sister! I forgot, I have to watch her! I grab my art book and my sister by the arm, run out the door to get to the field before the horses leave. We were in luck. The horses are still there. I sit on the rock next to my sister, and I started drawing. When we got back to the house, we had some clam chowder from our favorite restaurant. She wanted to practice serving tea with me, so I told her I would after I finish sewing my scarf. After that, we practiced serving tea until my father gets home from the shop. Once he gets home we will eat the left over clam chowder for supper. Then, every night before bed I like to draw pictures of my sister. Kylee Brammer

John Winthrop did a lot for the New England colonies. Winthrop was born in 1588 and died in 1649. Winthrop had four wives in his lifetime. John Winthrop did not live in the colonies, but he helped make a colony. Became the first governor of Massachusetts. He named Boston. Plymouth, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New Haven elected him their first chief executive.Alden Wilson

The exports, imports, and money New England Colonies help shape the economy. We have wood, fish, and ships to sell. We get the fish is on the coast of Massachusetts. It is the richest fishing spot in the world. New England has a very big whaling industry to hunt for them. We also do the Triangular Trade which that involves bills of exchange.Jacob Dumais

MIDDLE COLONIES

The middle colonies consist of Delaware, Pennsylvania, New York, and New Jersey. The land weather , and natural resources helps shape the economy and daily life of the colonies. The middle colonies are in between the Atlantic Ocean and the Appalachian Mountains. The Hudson river as well as the Delaware river carry crops and furs to nearby towns. These colonies also have terrific soil for farming. The weather is very different from the New England Colonies. It is warm all most all year. The summers are hot and winters are mild. There is more sun than in New England as well as rain. People use what they have around them to help them with their businesses. There are lots of forests for wood and long deep rivers for bigger ships with colonists who want to trade. We mainly trade deer, beaver, and furs. The middle colonies would look a lot different if it wasnt for the geography!Bethanne Droll

William Penn was a great man who was helpful to many. He helped people live a better life in a new land. He lived from 1644 to 1718 he was a Quaker and he studied law. He found the beautiful state of Pennsylvania , he even lived in Philadelphia and envisioned refuge for all religious beliefs. I live a peaceful life because of William Penn. He went to claim Pennsylvania because King Charles the Second told him to. He brought about 300 people with him. These days there are much more people in the Pennsylvania . Pennsylvania is a peaceful part of the middle colonies. In the 1670s he became a figure of importance to the Quaker community. The king made him governor of Pennsylvania. He is a special man if he never found the colony things would be different these days.Quinlan Monkouski!

MIDDLE COLONIES (continued)

Yesterday was a pretty normal day. Ah, what a wonderful day it is, I spoke as I woke up in the thin sheets on my bed in. I walked down the oak wood stairs to have some breakfast, oatmeal. After I ate ate my serving of oatmeal, I went outside to tie my horses to my carriage. While I was tying, I saw my Jewish friend, Jeremy. He said ,"Top of the morning to ya!" I only waved. So after I got on my carriage, I headed to my work at the bay. I'm a fisherman for my family. My achievement that I have been trying to get for at least a year was to get a 22" fish. I got a 23" Seabass. It felt spectacular to finally check off that achviebment (mentally). As I was getting ready to leave work, I saw my Christian friend, Thomas. "Good afternoon Alexander!" Thomas exclaimed. "Have you seen Salvador anywhere?" I questioned. He thought for a moment. "I think he moved to the Southern Colonies, don't know where though." "Well, have a good rest of your evening!" I yelled. "You too!" Thomas excitedly exclaimed. I went home and fixed up supper for my family. Guess what we had? FISH! After my wife and I put the kids to sleep, we went to bed and waited for today to come in our sleep. A day in the Middle Colonies is filled with busy people, happy children, and very exciting townfolk of different religions. -Alexander Knorr

Our Economy
The economy is about buying and selling goods in our culture. The money and the imports and exports is a huge part of the economy. The money is pounds, shillings, and pence. The symbol for a pound is an f and an L combined. They counted their money by the English system of pounds. When someone imports something they take it in for themselves. Most of the stuff we got we got them from England. Surprisingly we imported more stuff than we exported. The middle colonies imported lots of stuff like sugar, molasses, rum, indigo, and mahogany. When a person exports something they sell it. We sold lots and lots of grain that we were called the breadbasket. Delaware exported furs, tobacco, meat, grain, flour, bread, barrel staves, and iron witch is a lot of goods. Pennsylvania exported foodstuff, wheat, corn, apples, dairy, cattle, glass, and alcohol. New York exported fur, timber, foodstuff, cattle, horses, alcohol, fine, flour, flax, and iron bars. So you see economy is a huge part of the middle colonies culture. By Katie MacKendrick

SOUTHERN COLONIES
Geography of the Southern Colonies
The southern colonies consist of Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia. The land, climate, and natural resources help shape economy and daily life of the colonies. The land of the southern colonies is beautiful. There are ocean tides that make rivers fall and rise up to one hundred fifty miles inland. The land has a steep backcountry which settlers arrive in. the land is between the Appalachian mountains and the Atlantic ocean. The land is good for seven or eight months; good for farming rice, corn, and indigo. The weather here is great. There are hot summers and mild winters. Most of the time in here is warm. Warm weather can cause more to spread scarlet fever. The natural resources are very useful in here. Colonists can hunt deer, rabbits, and turkeys. Colonists can also fish seafood. The indigo plant a blue dye plant can be planted in here. This is the beautiful geography of the southern colonies.Dany Rios Castillo

General James Oglethorpe is the great founder of our colony Georgia. He has changed my life forever. He was born on December 22th 1696 in London, England. He died on June 30th 1785 in Cranham Hall, Essex, England. He was also a wealthy English man. He founded Georgia in honor of King George II. He sailed for North America with 120 colonists. He is the governor of Georgia. FUN FACT: his middle name is Edward. Our colony owes so much to General Oglethorpe. I hope to meet him someday. Salvador Martinez Serrano

SOUTHERN COLONIES (continued)

Yesterday went just like another normal day in the Southern Colonies. I started my day off with a great breakfast that my slaves fed me. When I was done with breakfast, I walked into town to get some supplies. On my way to get supplies, I saw slaves working on the plantation, horsemen, and craftsmen. I also saw some boys wearing breeches, a shirt, a hat, and boots. The women were wearing petticoats, and cotton dresses. When I got to the store, I saw this sign that it read, Today, 1682 William Penn found Pennsylvania. At the store I got supplies and some food. The food that I

usually get for my slaves and I is fish, rice, fruits, vegetables, bread, and got water to drink. I paid for the food and supplies then hit the road back home. When I was driving home, I saw another sign that was really old and it read, Maryland was founded in 1634. I got home wanted to relax after a long day. For fun, the kids play hopscotch, fly kites, and play marbles. We men have shooting contests. On the other hand, the women have sewing contests.

Some of the parents I know dont get to have a lot of fun because they are teaching their kids, but then when they are done teaching their kids, they send the boys off to college or have them help on the family farm. The parents teach their kids manners, reading, writing, and prayers. The life of a person in the Southern Colonies isnt always easy, but it is worth it for the freedom of living in this vast, beautiful land. James Lahrman

Slavery was not a new idea in the 1700s because it had been practiced all over the world for thousands of years. Slave traders bought Africans in such places like Brazil, and the West Indies, as well as to the 13 colonies.Photograph and caption by Tyler Chavez

OPINION
Political Cartoon: This cartoon makes reference to the Europeans showing up and taking land for themselves despite the Native Americans who already lived here. Cartoon by Bianca Teter

Dear Editor (and those European readers looking for a new life), If you move to the Southern Colonies, you can own large expanses of land and fertile soil for little or no cost. There is religious freedom, and there are no English men to persecute you because of your beliefs. There are so many enjoyable jobs that will supply you with all the money you can dream of. Any man who likes those offers will love the southern colonies. The land is exceptional for many reasons. You can buy an acre for as little as twelve and a half shillings! The rich, thick soil is great for growing tobacco, corn, rice, indigo, and more. There arent very many colonists yet, so you should buy as much land as possible before the demand is high. Are you Catholic? Or are you a Puritan? Quaker? Are you an Anglican, Presbyterian, Baptist, or a Methodist? All of these religions

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Move to the Southern Colonies!

and more are welcome in the southern colonies. Maryland was created for Catholics, but there is a much larger variety there. Do you feel that there arent enough good jobs in England? Look around; the world is your oyster. You can be a farmer and own acres of crops. In the southern colonies, you can live like a king for much less than what you already spend. There are endless opportunities, so take advantage of them today! To get to America, you will have to take a boat ride across the ocean. But the trip is worth it. For every day you spend on the cramped caravel, there is a relaxing year ahead of you in the colonies. You wont regret the choice to live your life in the luxury that is the southern colonies.Bianca Teter
