Professional Experience

Telstra Corp Melbourne, Victoria Australia

As the leading network operator in Australia, Telstra is a Fortune-500 company. It is also one of the
world’s most successful triple-play carriers, with market-leading cellular, fixed-line, broadband, cable, and
digital content businesses. For the last four years I have held leadership roles in mobile and online product
development for Sensis, Telstra’s content search and advertising subsidiary.

Manager, Product Innovation (December 2007 – April 2010)

In my role as the director of digital innovation for the Yellow Pages and White Pages brands in
this geography, the focus of my job was to drive new product initiatives to meet the evolving
needs of our users and customers. The key challenge that I faced in this role was to help steward
Sensis through its transformation from a company with strong leadership in its core business into
a more nimble enterprise, capable of producing sustainable organic growth through new mobile
and online products. Responsibilities:
 Organization of technical and commercial trials of new online and mobile product concepts,
including business development and partnership acquisition for trial launches
 Forecasting and financial modeling for new digital product and partnership business cases
 Strategy formulation and implementation for digital properties and channels
 Relationship management with key innovation liaisons across the media, publishing,
telecommunications, advertising, education, government, and non-profit sectors
 Driving the company’s thought leadership, both internally and externally, on future trends in
digital content, search, advertising, mapping, social media, and mobile technology

Product Development Manager, Mobile (April 2006 – December 2007)

Recruited into Sensis to lead a team dedicated to building a new mobile search engine for the
local market, I was accountable for the development, lifecycle management, and strategic
direction of Sensis’s mobile search and advertising products. With overall business ownership of
the country’s first home-grown mobile search and advertising product, this role was very
entrepreneurial, from organizing the initial product development and launch, to partner and
channel management during the growth stages, to overseeing mainstream product management at
maturity. Responsibilities:
 Driving the company’s market creation, usage, and revenue growth strategies across the mobile
application suite
 Negotiating contracts and revenue share agreements with search technology providers (Microsoft,
Yahoo, Google); mobile network operators; and content syndication partners
 Line management of mobile search product managers and site producers
 Managing internal and external search interfaces, including syndicated partner search APIs

Product Manager, Mobile Portals (February 2004 – April 2006)

In this position, I was accountable for the editorial strategy and product delivery of Telstra’s
mobile internet portals. My role was to drive customer uptake of mobile data services by
providing a compelling content experience to subscribers of the country’s most popular gateway
to the mobile web. Responsibilities:
 Growing the on-portal and off-portal mobile data business while maximizing mobile content
downloads and subscription revenues
 Planning and launching three new mobile portals: Telstra’s 2G i-mode service, Telstra’s 3G
consumer portal, and the Telstra business portal
 Developing the business requirements plus vendor selection/management for Telstra’s service
delivery platform
 Analyzing and forecasting content consumption trends by market segment

Consultant (May 2010 – current)

I am presently engaged as a remote consultant for Microsoft’s behavioral advertising business in
the US, Canada, and Australia. My remit is to lead the evolution of new segmentation models for
MSN’s local markets based on unique patterns of usage, consumer behavior, and
culture/linguistics across the different geographies. The aim is to improve advertisers’ ability to
target customers more effectively, increasing ROI on their ad spend while delivering more
relevant ad content to MSN users. Microsoft benefits through both revenue and margin uplifts as
a result of higher conversion rates and pricing premiums.

Over the course of three early-career years at Microsoft, I worked my way up from a copy editor
of encyclopedia articles to the manager of content for the company’s geography business unit, all
while the industry was undergoing a massive shift from the delivery of content via shrink-
wrapped titles to the early commercial days of the web. In my various roles, I contributed to the
