Education Regulation
20% of Nationals Budget is for Education (including salaries for teachers and lecturers). Planning to build 495 Community Colleges (one in each district). Currently 64 have been built. Target in 2008: 5.000 PhD/year (3.000 from within Indonesia, 2.000 from abroad). Currently sends about 600-1.100/year abroad. Major problem: English language.

Opens for lecturers in state and private universities. Started in 2008. Sent out more than 4000 students.

LPDP Scholarship: http://www.beasiswalpdp.org/


Opens for anyone but lecturers on 6 fields: engineering, science, agriculture, accounting/finance, law and religion. Only for top 200 universities. Started in 2013. Sent out 1500 students all over the world. 93 students are now in UK (16 PhD, 77 MSc). Will be monitored at end of this week. Open throughout the year.

Conclusions
Indonesia needs to keep improving its human resources to meet the country s needs. Scholarships for Indonesians to study abroad are available and plentiful. Scholarships to study in Indonesia are available. Academic and research collaborations are expected to increase. Priority fields have been identified. Need to prepare for Rt. Hon. David Willets visit to Indonesia, 2-4 March 2014.
