Aluma center:
The Center for Couple and Family Therapy and Consultation was established in 1954 under the auspices of the Israel Family Counseling Association, as a nonprofit organization (Registration # 580027989). The Center is known as a public institution that is allowed to receive non-taxable donations, under article 46 of the 3laws governing income tax in Israel The Center was the first agency in Israel to provide couple and family therapy. Today it is the only non-profit agency in the central region of Israel providing these services to any person, couple or family, regardless of place of residence, country of origin, religion, ethnic or racial group, or socio-economic level. Therefore, the centers rates for treatment are lower than in the private sector. Clients unable to pay even this receive reduced rates based on a sliding scale , in accordance with their declared income.

We treat approximately 150 families, couples and individuals a month. The treatment is given by twenty-five therapists whose expertise is couple and family therapy. Most of our staff is freelancers who receive between 100-130 shekel an hour. In their 3private clinics they earn at least double that figure Our clients pay between 110-240 shekel per session in accordance to their financial ability. There are clients that are unable to pay even that amount and receive an 3additional discount, and pay only fifty shekel an hour The fee in real terms for an hour of treatment (accounting rental fee, city taxes, electricity, etc,) is 280 shekel an hour. Therefore for each client we must raise between sixty to two-hundred and forty shekel per session. The cost for one family a 3)year is 11,800 NIS (forty sessions x 280 NIS

From the time the Center was established it has continued to function on three levels: 1. Providing therapy and consultation on all levels: individual, couple, family and group. Clients come from all social and economic groups. Requests for help attest to a broad array of social problems and distress among the client population. These include: Domestic violence3 Sexual, emotional and physical abuse or exploitation3 Difficulties coping as a single-parent family Personal and Family Crisis3 Illness3 Death in the family3 Immigration and absorption3 Job-loss, lay-off or unemployment3 Family problems based on developmental, physical or psychiatric disability3

The above sources of distress exist on the level of the individual as well as the family unit.

2. Training family therapists Most of todays outstanding family therapists in Israel began their career at the Center. Today the Center continues to train family therapists who hold university degrees in social work, counseling or psychology. The content of the training program is developed to fit each trainees learning needs and experience, according to the criteria established by the Association of Family and Marriage Therapy in Israel for certifying family and marriage counselors or therapists. Therapists who finish the training program receive certification from the Association. 3 . Aluma Centers Scope of Treatment:

Today, The Center has four unique ongoing programs. A unique, one of its kind, nation-wide is family treatment with special needs young people. The second treatment is for victims of sexual abuse and their families. The treatment of victims of sexual abuse is conducted by only two centers in the country. The third treatment is families with children entering the IDF. And the last one is Single-Mothers with preschool children that live in the shadow of trauma.

FAMILIES WITH SPECIAL NEED CHILDREN We are dealing her with two types of families. The first type is the family that turn to us with a certain difficulty coping with an offspring with special needs. Fears, doubts, guilt-feelings and anger are often dealt with in these cases. The treatment here is 3family oriented and in the case of an adult-child the focus is on individual treatment In addition there are families referred to us with special need children that wish to build or begin a couple relationship. The treatment here is for the young couple, whilst the parents are guided as a system in order to allow the couple to establish themselves and continually check if the parentsenable independence while taking into account the functions they fill as parents

SEXUAL ABUSE-VICTIM TREATMENT In the context of this program, two types of families are treated. One, is with young girls or teens that are victims of incest either by a Parent (usually a Father) or brother. The second family is the one that discovered the abuse shortly after it occurred and the family members, specifically the daughter is traumatized by the abuse and the 3relevation of this secret. The treatment is primarily individual and family There are families where the secret is only revealed many years after the traumatic incident took place. Treatment here is primarily individual and at times couple or family oriented, in response to failed attempts at building successful relationships with a partner or spouse. The work around the traumatic event brings up much unfinished business which is at the core of the therapy.

FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN ENTERING THE IDF Families with children entering or serving in the Israel Defense Forces, experience considerable fear and stress as their childrens lives are suddenly at high risk. Tensions arise when the two individual parents relate differently to this experience. SINGLE MOTHERS WITH PRE - SCHOOL CHILDREN THAT LIVE IN THE SHADOW OF TRAUMA. Today, we have twenty-five single mothers in our Center without the means to support themselves economically. These women cope with the complexities of singleparenthood and in their background is personal or familial trauma such as death, 3illness, handicap issues, abuse and divorce In order to fulfill the demands of employment, education and homekeeping on their own, along with coping with children that experienced this trauma, we are able to provide clinical treatment for them and their parent-child relationship. The clinical intervention in Aluma puts an emphasis on developmental milestones of the child with sensitivity and devotion to the parental role in helping out with these emotional milestones of early childhood development. The dyadic treatment strengthens the parent and guides her to serve as an "anchor" to his child in the present and in the future time. UNDERLYING TENETS OF THE CENTER: 1 Every person, regardless of his or her financial situation is entitled to high quality professional therapy: Every applicant - family, couple or individual is seen by a professional therapist, has his or her needs addressed and is helped to the best of the Centers ability. 2 Prevention is the first goal of the Center Research indicates that abusive and violent adults were themselves victims of abuse and violence during childhood. The Center believes that with the help of therapeutic intervention in the family, it is possible to immediately lessen the distress, and to prevent the continuation of the abuse in further generations.

3 The right to privacy and confidentiality with regard to self-disclosures The Center offers an alternative to those who do not wish to receive treatment in a private or public agency in their own community, due to stigma and fear of the leakage of information. Persons living in small or religious communities feel especially vulnerable, as are family members who are perpetrators or victims of incest or other sexual abuse. 4 Respect for differences in values, needs and world view The center attempts to fit the treatment plan to meet the needs of the particular individual or family. Thus, the Center employs therapists who are knowledgeable and experienced in a wide range of treatment approaches.

We would be grateful to receive help for the families above in accordance to the preference of each and every donor. I hope the above information assists you, and I am happy to continue to provide you with further information upon your request.

Best wishes Rubin orly Director, Aluma Tel Aviv, Israel
