RE/Sustainability Books
Name Book of the Author
Danny Kennedy
Publication Date
1-Jan-12
Description
Danny Kennedy systematically refutes the lies spread by solars opponentsthat it is expensive, inefficient, and unreliable; that it is kept alive only by subsidies; that it cant be scaled; and many other untruths. He shows that we need a rooftop revolution to break the entrenched power of the coal, oil, nuclear, and gas industries. Business Models for Renewable Energy in the Built Environment provides insight to policy makers and market actors as to the ways that new and innovative business models (and/or policy measures) can stimulate the deployment of renewable energy technologies (RET) and energy efficiency (EE) measures in this field. The perfect book for anyone seeking an unbiased understanding of all sides of the climate change issue, Climate of Uncertainty explores the topic in a way all readers will understand. Without taking sides, Stewart examines the major questions of today: global warming, renewable energy, expanding populations, and sustainability. The booklet describes making an anaerobic digester using an oil drum and a rubber inner tube as the gas storage vessel as well as a larger continuous digester. The book also contains diagrams, list of materials and websites for further reading.

Cleantech Snapshots
EAI presents Cleantech snapshots: A quick summary of the some of the most interesting and innovative areas in clean technology that will drive the sustainability movement in future.
Small Scale CSP Concentrating solar power (CSP) that uses the heat of sunlight to run a turbine and generate electricity, has one key drawback its minimum size has to be in tens of MW However in the recent past, there have been significant advancements in the growth of small scale CSPs that could run at even 100s of kWs High costs and uncertainities in technical feasibilities are still challges for small scale CSP. If overcome, small scale CSP has a promising future in developing countries.

This heat can be converted to electricity. With waste management and waste to energy gaining importance, the use of ORC has seen furious growth in the last few years, and can be expected to play a significant role in the near future especially in the waste heat recovery domain Read more: http://bit.ly/1kk9EcA Micro Hydro Power Micro hydro refers to hydroelectric power upto 100 kW. in a shorter time and are specifically meant for fuel The main advantage of using bio feedstock as fuel is their net zero carbon emissions, as they absorb an almost equal amount of Co2 during growth as they release when they burnt Scaling up and land use issues are some of the main bottlenecks today for the faster growth of energy crops

A solid waste in landfills decomposes, landfill gas is released Landfill gas consists of approximately 50% methane, 42% carbon dioxide, 7% nitrogen and 1% oxygen compounds Earlier, landfill gas used to be flared. But many landfills today utilize the gas on site to either produce heat or electricity

This mixture is called producer gas. A diverse range of crop, wood and forest waste can be used as feedstock for biomass gasification For India with large amounts of biomass waste generated annually, gasification could be an effective way to provide rural electricity
