The following files are available for free download. They deal with aircraft design, and consist of the series of articles by John Roncz as they were published in the EAA magazine, and take you from the beginning right through to the final calculations. This spreadsheet will allow you to get all the major measurements right. You will need to make some basic choices (eg: desired stall speed, engine size) and the spreadsheet will do all the number crunching for you. The Design Spreadsheet is based on the famous Roncz calculations, but Ive modernised it to provide a far simpler way of entering the data, and seeing the results of your changes immediately. I have also added the Raymer design pages, some pages of design background material, and finally a page to do the landing gear calcs for you. Hope you find it useful. To get you started, I have pre-populated the spreadsheet with the actual Razorback data, so that you can base your design on something real. NB These tools are for educational purposes only. They are offered in good faith to give you some idea of what is involved in designing an aircraft. Please do not rely on the spreadsheets to design your aircraft. To do so, you will need to conduct exhaustive analysis of all systems, including stress analysis. Roncz Spreadsheets v2.1 The Spreadsheet These are the accompanying articles written by John Roncz for the EAA magazine. These are mandatory reading if you really wish to understand the spreadsheet above. To make it easier for those with limited bandwidth, Ive kept the articles separate, so you can download them one at a time. Happy reading. sav-1990-02r-cc Feb 1990 article sav-1990-03r-cc Mar 1990 article sav-1990-04r-cc Apr 1990 article sav-1990-05r-cc May 1990 article sav-1990-06r-cc Jun 1990 article sav-1990-08r-cc Aug 1990 article (there was no July article) sav-1990-09r-cc Sep 1990 article sav-1990-10r-cc Oct 1990 article

The pattern shown might be better described as a geodesic grid (eg wellington bomber ) -Brant Goldsworthy was the inventor of the grid stiffened composite method employed by Rutan as far as I know --he was at Airventure in 1998 and Burt gave him a big wrap for his contributions to high performance composite design , He was largely responsible for the fabrication of the fiberglass Convaircar flying car body in 1946
