Pender United Methodist Church Council Meeting November 20, 2013

WORSHIP AND COMMUNION Beth Dougherty called the meeting to order at 7:10 pm. The group formed small groups to pray for guidance and discernment. Mike Williams lead the group in a devotion follo ed ith communion !y "astor #enny and $arrie $ahoon. PRAYERFUL CONSIDERATION OF CHURCH MATTERS: MINISTRY PRIORITIES IN LIGHT OF CURRENT FISCAL SITUATION #T Tarro encouraged the group to offer suggestions% ask &uestions% and criti&ue constructively. 'll opinions discussed are confidential and there is more than one perspective in considering alternatives. Due to the amount of information to !e presented tonight% additional time ill !e needed to analy(e discussion points) therefore% an additional meeting ill !e held on Decem!er * ith the intention that a proposed !udget for +iscal ,ear -01* ill !e presented at the Decem!er 1. $ouncil meeting for approval. #T stressed that it is imperative that a !udget !e approved prior to the start of the +iscal ,ear. 't the end of /cto!er% Becky Bryan reported that there as a deficit of appro0imately 1100%000. 2iving has increased and spending has !een held !ack. /n the !ack of the !ulletin is a report on funds received and needed during the previous eek and the year to date. There are 3 4undays left in the fiscal year and giving has !een averaging appro0imately 150%000 each 4unday this past month. Ministry leaders6 shared their planned activities for the remaining months of this fiscal year and +iscal ,ear -01*. 's done during the past /cto!er meeting% discussion focused on the follo ing areas: 'ssessment of hether current or future activities are vital to making disciples for 7esus $hrist using the 8so that9 format. :dentification of activities done in the past that could !e done differently in the future hich ould allo for a possi!le cost savings. :dentification of planned activities that could !e reduced% postponed% or eliminated ith no significant impact to the mission of the ministry. ;evie of planned activities ith the highest dollar impact to the !udget.
