MATERIALS

BERNAT 50/50 Baby Germantown (1 oz. pull skein) 5(5-6) 1 pair straight knitting needles No. 5 OR ANY SIZE NEEDLES WHICH WILL GIVE THE STITCH GAUGE GIVEN BELOW 1 steel crochet hook No. 2 6 buttons 1 yd each *. inch grosgrain ribbon and % inch satin ribbon GAUGE: 11 sts = 2 inches 7 rows = 1 inch

SLEEVES: Cast on 73(73-82) sts. Work 8 rows of pattern st for frill 33(3337) sts. K the next row and continue in stockinette st, inc 1 st each end of needle every % inch 6(88) times. Work even on 45(4953) sts until piece measures 7 3^(8 3^-91/0 inches, ending with a P row. Break off and si sts onto a holder. TO JOIN: With wrong side facing you, si sts onto one needle as follows: 34(35-38) sts of left front, put a marker on needle, 45(4953) sts of one sleeve, put a marker on needle, 61(63 67) sts of back, put a marker on needle, 45(49-53) sts of other sleeve, put a marker on needle, and 34(35-38) sts of right front 219(231-249) sts. RAGLAN SHAPING: Row 1: Starting at right front edge, P 4 for front band, * K to 2 sts before next marker, K 2 tog twice, repeat from * 3 times more, K to last 4 sts, P 4 for left front band 8 sts decreased. Row 2: K 4, P to last 4 sts, K 4. Repeat these 2 rows 11 (1213) times more 123(127-137) sts. SHAPE NECK: Continuing to dec 1 st each side of each marker every other row 6 times more, at the beg of each of the next 2 rows bind off 12(12-14) sts and dec 1 st each end of needle every other row 4 times, ending with a K row. On next row P 2 tog 5(6-7) times, P to last 10(12-14) sts, P 2 tog 5(6-7) times. Bind off remaining 33(35-39) sts. COLLAR: Cast on 127(127-136) sts. Work 8 rows of pattern st for frill 57(57-61) sts. K the next row and continue in stockinette st until piece measures 2 inches. Bind off. FINISHING: Sew underarm and sleeve seams. With right side facing you, work 1 s c around front and neck edges, holding neck in to desired size. Sew on collar to within 2 sts of each front edge. Block. Shrinking grosgrain ribbon first, face fronts. Finish buttonholes. Sew on buttons. BOXNET Starting at front edge, cast on 136(145-154) sts. Work 8 rows of pattern st for frill 61(65-69) sts. K the next row and continue in stockinette st until piece measures 4J4(4%W^l inches. SHAPE BACK: At the beg of each of the next 2 rows bind off 20(21-22) sts. Work even on 21(23-25) centre sts until piece is same length as bound off edges. Break off and si sts onto a holder. FINISHING: Sew side edge of back piece to bound off edges. NECKBAND: With right side facing you, pick up 63(6771) sts around neck edge, including sts from holder. K 1, P 1 in ribbing for 3 rows. BEADING: Work 3 sts, * y o, work 2 tog, work 2, repeat from * across row. Work 3 more rows in ribbing. Bind off. Block. Run satin ribbon through beading.

PATTERN STITCH FOR FRILL: Multiple of 9 sts plus 1.

Row 1: P 2, * K 6, P 3, repeat from *, ending K 6, P 2. Row 2: K 2, * P 6, K 3, repeat from *, ending P 6, K 2. Row 3: P 2, * K 4, K 2 tog, P 3, repeat from *, ending P 2 instead of P 3. Row 4: K 2, * P 2 tog, P 3, K 3, repeat from *, ending K 2 instead of K 3. Row 5: P 2, * K 2, K 2 tog, P 3, repeat from *, ending P 2 instead of P 3. Row 6: K 2, * P 2 tog, P 1, K 3, repeat from *, ending K 2 instead of K 3. Row 7: P 2, * K 2 tog, P 3, repeat from *, ending K 2 tog, P2. Row 8: Purl. These 8 rows form pattern stitch for frill. JACKET BACK: Cast on 136(145-154) sts. Work 8 rows of pattern st for frill 61(65-69) sts. K the next row, dec 0(1-1) st each end of needle. Continue in stockinette st on 61(63-67) sts until piece measures 7^(8-83^) inches, ending with a P row. Break off and si sts onto a holder. LEFT FRONT: Cast on 75(75-84) sts. Row 1: Work Row 1 of pattern on next 73(73-82) sts, put a marker on needle, P 2. Row 2: K 2, work Row 2 of pattern st on next 73(73-82) sts. Keeping 2 sts at front edge in reverse stockinette st, work the remaining 73(73-82) sts in pattern st for 6 rows more 35(35-39) sts. K the next row, dec 1 (0-1) st at arm edge and continue in stockinette st on 34(35-38) sts until piece measures 7^(88^) inches, ending with a P row. Break off and si sts onto a holder. RIGHT FRONT: Work to correspond to left front, reversing placing of front band and forming first buttonhole when piece measures J^(l-l) inch. BUTTONHOLE: Starting at front edge, P 2, y o, P 2 tog, work to end of row. Make 5 more buttonholes, spaced 2(2-2J4) inches apart, the last one to be made /^(/^%) inch below start of neck shaping. SI sts onto a holder. Do not break off.
