MARA Personal Statement Numbers bring thousands meaning, sometimes powerful. I have a deep interest in mathematics and was fortunate to have the opportunity to learn Algebra from an early age. It was a talk by representatives from Petronas at a careers fair, which had opened my mind to the field of engineering. I discovered that to be a great mechanical engineer, one must have strong calculative and analytical skills, as well as a wide scope of knowledge as an engineer is not only confined to calculation. The challenging career path to be a mechanical engineer made me more determined to pursue a degree in mechanical engineering. Competition makes me mature and much of what I have done so far and wanted to do is about competing. My friends always teased me because of my interest in what many cotemporaries considered too adult for them. I regularly read articles on business and world affairs such as The Economics, hence heightened my awareness on the process of globalisation the world is going through as well as the competition I have to face when I enter my first job due to this process. I continuously pursue activities that can build up my character, improve my knowledge, broaden my experience, build foundation for entrepreneurial skills and instil leadership qualities. I performed well academically and having excelled in my semester examination. I was involved in many school activities as well as held several positions in my school. In high school, I was appointed as the Secretary for Student Council at The Malay College Kuala Kangsar. Often this involves planning and execution of activities such as the motivation and team building programmes, so that these programs can bring us closer to our fellow students besides develop students skills in all aspect. I also believe in contributing to the society, which is why I was involved in a community project where I took the role to motivate, coach and teach children in the locality so that they could see beyond the confines of their day-to-day life. This project taught me humility and empathy the most. I see myself as having a strong sense of self-discipline, which is why I was selected to be one of the committee members for The Malay College Youth Development Summit Programme in 2008. I also had the opportunity to meet His Excellency Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, the recently retired President of India in Malaysia Science University as one of the Malay College Youth Development Summit Programmes tentative. It was an eye opener, as we had to go out of our cocoon and realize how competitive everyone was especially from many activities that we had to participate together. This exposed me to the competitive environment, not to mention the importance of English language as a universal language and the importance of knowledge, inter-personal as well as leadership skills in order to be a better, well-rounded person. I also have a special interest in tennis, water polo and squash and represent my house for these interesting sports. I love music so much. Although I do not have opportunity to learn music, but in the age of 13, when I entered boarding school, I try very hard to learn it by involve

in orchestra team. Being as only one who do not have any knowledge in music, it teach me to be more determine in order to learn about this subjective and challenging subject. At the age of 17, I was appointed as assistant conductor for my high school orchestra team and we had won the gold medal and entered the final competition. I learnt that decision-making process is about making the best of any situation and the available resources.
