Gale Family Newsletter!

Were on our way to Lima, Peru! This letter will keep you updated as we start on the road to service overseas.
Dear Mission Partner,! The last few weeks have brought much exciting news to report. By the generous and varied support from you and all of our partners in this work, I have been approved by the LCMS to deploy to Peru. This means that we are in the nal phase before we completely relocate overseas. Starting in the rst week of March, much of my time will be dedicated to training in Spanish in anticipation of the move. We dont have a denitive timeline yet, but only a couple of months stand between where we are now and Lima. You all have my heartfelt thanks, and I have truly been humbled and honored by this process.! So, to be sure, this is an exciting time. But many logistical items are taking our attention, though. We dont plan to ship any of our things, so now we are downsizing to where everything we own ts in a few suitcases. Katy is also in the middle of rst grade in a online homeschool program ran through the state of Pennsylvania.

Pastor Gale presenting on LCMS mission work in Lima, Peru

February 2014

When we move, were no longer residents of Philadelphia, so we have to make other arrangements for her education. ! And as I mentioned, Spanish studies are featuring prominently in our minds. I have no Spanish ability, and neither does Amanda, but there is a plan in place to get us to a limited level of competency in the next few months, then when we move to Lima we will take on total immersion training for several more months. The ability to communicate in the language, especially to teach and preach, is certainly a necessity. ! Since I started on Dec 1, almost all of my time has been spent on the road. Our Lord has safely taken us this far, and we pray for continued safety as I work with our partners here in the States. A huge thanks also goes to the many who have hosted me and my family. ! Please keep these things " our travel, language training and upcoming deployment " in prayer. !

New Missionary Orientation!

The family and I, along with the rest of our most recently called LCMS missionaries, spent two weeks at the beginning of February in St. Louis for New Missionary Orientation. The main presenter was Dr Detlev Schulz, a professor of mine from Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, who presented on the theology of Lutheran mission work. Many other practical sessions were held that help prepare us for service. It was also great to reconnect with old friends, and make new ones.!
