Course Prerequisites Electric Circuit analysis 1 (EEE 121) Recommended Text Book Electronic Circuits Analysis and Design, 3rd Edition, by Donald A Neamen Microelectronic Circuits by Sedra/smith Fifth Edition Recommended Reference Books Fundamentals of Microelectronics, 1st Edition, by Behzad Razavi Course Objectives This course introduces and describes the physical characteristics and operation of the major semiconductor devices and the basic circuits in which they are used, to illustrate how the device characteristics are utilized in switching, digital, and amplification applications. Learning Outcomes Students will be able to: Know the fundamentals of a pn junction diode, current flow under different bias conditions, capacitances and its effect on the device performance, model the pn junction diode. Determine the operation and characteristics of diode rectifier circuits as a first stage of power supply. Apply the characteristics of the Zener diode to a voltage regulator circuits. Apply the nonlinear characteristics of diodes to design wave-shaping circuits. Examine the techniques to analyze circuits containing more than one diode. Understand the operation of photo diodes and light-emitting diodes. Understand the construction and operation of Bipolar Junction Transistors. Understand the dc analysis and design techniques of BJT circuits. Examine three basic applications of BJT. Understand the concept of amplification. Examine three basic amplifier configurations. Understand the concept of AC load line and determine the maximum symmetrical output swing. Be able to perform large signal and small signal analysis of multi-stage BJT amplifiers. Understand the construction and operation of MOS Field Effect Transistors and perform large signal analysis of MOSFET amplifiers. Investigate the current source biasing of MOSFET circuits.
