NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR FREE TECHIE CAMP!

With support from the Nordson Corporation Foundation, TECH CORPS will implement its Techie Camp® program with a total of 100 Lorain County students during the summer of 2014.

Techie Camp is a full-day, week-long technology experience designed specifically for elementary and middle school students. The goal of Techie Camp is to engage students in activities that can stimulate a deeper interest in technology; as well as provide opportunities for them to express their imaginations.

Each camp is comprised of 20 students and lead by two TECH CORPS Instructors. Families will be responsible for transportation and lunch/two snacks/beverages. Applications Due: February 28, 2014

 

TECHIE CAMP Topics

ES: Programming

Through fun and engaging experiences with Scratch, from MIT Media Lab, elementary school students learn how to create their own interactive art, stories and games.

ES: Robotics

Students explore basic engineering and programming as they interact with the Lego Mindstorms NXT robots.

MS: Programming

Using Alice, a 3D programming environment, students will learn the basic concepts of programming through the creation of video games and interactive stories.

MS: Robotics

Students explore intermediate engineering and programming concepts using Lego Mindstorms NXT robots.

1. Currently reside in Lorain County.

2. Will be enrolled in the 3 rd - 5 th or 6 th - 8 th grade in the Fall of 2014

Student Selection Process:

Students interested in being selected to participate will need to turn in a complete Application Packet before the Friday, February 28, 2014 deadline. Up to 20 students will be selected for each camp based on their application (10 points), essay (60 points) and letter of recommendation (30 points). Students will be notified of selection in early April.
