REFLECTION MUHAMMAD ADHA FAKHRURAZY BIN ABDULLAH 910622-03-5893

Alhamdulillah and praise to Allah for His blessing, I finally finishing this coursework. I want to thank to my beloved lecturer, Madam Zaliha for her kindness which help my group able to finish this coursework with flying colours. Furthermore, I also want to thank my group mate Wan Ahmad Fayadh and Muhammad Amirul Shafiq which always supporting each others when doing this coursework. Through this coursework, I have to find a storybook that is suitable for the level that I intended to teach to the students. After that, I have to make a script from the storybook that I have choose. Then, I have to demonstrate a scene from the script that I produce. I also need to make a play using the script that I produce. In the play, I must use a technique and an activity. Then, I must present it in front of the students. The first task is that to choose a storybook. I have to choose a storybook that is suitable to year 2 students. Willow Banks book Thieves in the Wood is the book that I decide to use to make a script. This storybook contains 2 main characters that are Randy Rabbit and Sandy Squirrel and 3 supporting character that is Thieves 1, Thieves 2 and Mr Mole. This storybook is about Randy and Sandy try to retrieve the stolen fruits from the two bad thieves. They also make a plan on how to give a good lesson to the thieves and also to make sure the two thieves did not dare to come back to their place again. The strength that I notice using this storybook is that it is suitable for year 2 learner to understand the story. This is because this storybook has a direct meaning which means when students reads or listen, they will understand it and without have to thinks what the real meaning. Furthermore, the storyline of the books is interesting and can attract the students to reads the books. Moreover, this storybook also contains many moral values such friendship, fight for justice and also many more. These are also several reasons why we chose this book.

However, I also notice weakness using this storybook. In this story, there are certain words that are not suitable for year 2 students. This will cause the students confuse or did not understand the words. If they did not understand the words, they will tend to play and not focusing on the storybook any more. To overcome this problem, I must make sure I change the words into a simple or explains to them the words without changing the words. After finished choosing the book, I have to adapt the storybook to make it simple and more interesting. Then, I have to make a script. To make a good script, I need to make sure that the script must suitable to the year 2 students, interesting, fun, and have to make sure it also have moral values. The strengths that I notice are that the script that I have produced is appropriate to year 2 students. This is because I use simple grammar and simple sentences. This makes the students able to understand the storyline better. I also make the storyline becomes more fun and interesting. I change several scenes to make it livelier and also familiar with the students environment. For example, in the first scene, in the real story, Randy asks Sandy to go fishing at the river without bring anything. However, in the adapted story I changed the story. For example, before they go fishing, they having a good conversation and Randy also bring a fishing rod to Sandy house. I also change the way they find the fruits and also the way the attack the thieves in a manner version. This is because the real storybooks they will attack with the fruits that they have retrieve and it is not impropriate. I change the fruits with stone. With this, the script has good moral values. However, while doing making this script, I also found some problems. The first challenge that I meet is that the sentences in the story long and also have a difficult word. It is not very suitable for year 2 students. I also need to make sure that the storyline of the script is still the same with the real storybooks. I also have to make sure that the grammar that I use in making this script is appropriate with the students level. To overcome these problems, I personally consult with my lecturer and also my friends. With their helps, I was able to produce a good script that consist good moral values.

After finished doing the script, I need to demonstrate a part or a scene from the script that I produce. I choose the scene when Randy asks Sandy to go fishing. I played Randy character. I choose to use the pantomime technique. Pantomime is originated from Greek term that is Pantomimos. Pantos means all and mimos means mimic. The meaning of pantomime is a performance where the actor played all the parts by means at gesture and movement accompanied by a narrative chorus. The activity that I choose is wearing a mask. By wearing the mask, I can show and give a hint about the character that I played. Then, the last task is to make a play based on the script, technique and activity that I have produces. First, I need to discuss which pair that I want to combines to perform the play. After having discussion almlost with all the pair, my pair choose the boys pair that is Mohammad Haffeezul Azwa and Muhammad Mukhlis Wanlah. The reasons I choose the boys pair because we can collaborate more efficient and it is easier for us to discuss within us. The strength that I notice is that we can do the work faster and efficent because we always cooperate in many things. Our group also have members that can make good props so that it is an advantage to us. Unfortunately, having all male members, it is difficult to pick a person to play the female character which is Sandy. Then, we choose the Willow Banks book Thieves in the Wood for our play. The reason we choose this book because it contains a good storyline and also have good moral values. The audience that watch our play will be year 3 students. Unfortunately, the script that I produce is suitable for year 2 students. In order to make it suitable to year 3 students, I need to adapt the script first. I make the sentences becomes more wordy and uses higher vocabulary than the previous script. I also make the storyline becomes more complicated and suitable for year 3 students. After complete editing the script, we discuss on who should be the character in the story. This Willow Banks story involves 4 character consist of 2 main character and 2 supporting character. Randy Rabbit and Sandy Squirrel are the main character and the two thieves are the supporting character.

After having discussion, we have come to a decision. I played the main character that is Randy Rabbit. My friend, Amirul Shafiq played Sandy Squirrel and the two bad thieves played by Mohammad Haffeezul and Muhammad Mukhlis. The roles of narrator are played by Wan Ahmad Fayadh. The role of narrator is to make the voice of the character and also the sound effect during the play. During the play, I played Randy Rabbit characters. It was very difficult for me because it was my first time to act in a play using pantomime technique. During the play presentation, the strength that I notice is that I was able to act same with the sound from the narrator. This makes the play becomes more smoothly. I also manage to understand the character. With this, I was able to be like the character and also manage to get the students attention. However, I also notice weakness during the play. The first thing is that I sometimes static at the stage. This will affect the play because they will see me not functioning at the stage. In order to overcome this problem, I need to make sure that I always move in the stage. I need to move in order to make me not static on the stage. Thus, I must practice many times so that I will able to move every time. This will make the play becomes more happening. We use the pantomime techniques and mask as the activity. As we all know, pantomime is a Greek term means a performance where the actor played all the parts by means at gesture and movement accompanied by a narrative chorus. The using of mask is to show and give a hint about the character that in the play. The strength that I notice using this pantomime technique during the play is that the person who acts in the play did not have to remember the script. With this, the actors just have to know the storyline of the play. Furthermore, it also can improve the actors listening and the awareness of the actor itself. It is because actors must hear what the narrators speak. Moreover, through this pantomime, it also can improve the narrator ability to make different voices. This is because a narrator must do a voice or sound for each characters. Thus, the narrators must make a variety of voices in order to make differences in each characters voice. Having this variety of voices, it also has attracts the students to watch the play. Using this pantomime also can make the actors able to make several of movement because they did not have to say a word. So, many movements we have made during the play in order to get the audience attention.

However, I also notice some weakness of pantomime during the play presentation. First is that the narrator sometimes confuse and not clear when he said the line in the script. It has effects the actors to perform in the stage. To overcome this problem, the narrator should practice many times and also must practice to have a loud voice. With this, the narrator will be able to have a clear voice projection. This will make the play becomes smoothly. The second thing is that sometimes actor act first before the line comes or the line comes first before the actor acts. This will make the play becomes not good. This happens because sometimes the actor did not focus on the narrator voices. To overcome these problems, actors and narrator should have practice many times in order to make it perfect. Actors also should be very focus and sharp on the stage because they need to hear what the narrator want to say and they need to make a movement or action after hearing the voice from the narrator. We also use several props in order to make the play becomes more interesting and also to make the actors to understand their role in the play. During the play presentation, I also notice some strength by using these props. The first prop that we make is the mask. By using the mask, we were able to make the actors to feels their role in the story. For me, I become Randy Rabbit characters. So, I wear the mask of a rabbit. It will make the play becomes more fun and also can get the students interest to learn. We also make a prop that is stone. This is because in the last scene, the main characters will attack the bad characters. Using this stone, we were able to show to the students what will happen if they do a bad things. However, they are some weaknesses that I notice during this play presentation. The first weakness is that the mask that we produce is not quite big and the hole for the eyes is very small. It affects the actors to move on the stage. To overcome these problems, I need to make sure that the mask that we produce is a very good one. I need to try it on the stage first before the play presentation so that I can know whether the mask is good or not. The other weakness I notice is that the dress or clothes that we wear. It was just simple clothes and just gives a small hint or clue to the students. To overcome this problem, I need to make sure that the clothes are suitable with the characters that I played. This is because it can make the actors becomes more real if the actors wears a good clothes.

In a conclusion, this play and drama task teaches us many new things about the play presentation. For a teacher, through this play presentation we can make the lesson becomes more interesting and fun. This is because they will happy to play in the classrooms. By using the pantomime techniques, we can utilize precise economic movement. From practicing, students gain communication skills, selfcontrol, build listening skills, practice focus, learn economy of movement, and create and understand plot lines and situations.
