Raising Teens: A Youth PerspectiveYouth Panel with Special GuestsFebruary 26th

Century House - 620 8th st., New Westminster
Raising a teen can be uncharted territory for many of us. We often ask ourselves: Is this normal? When do I need to draw boundaries, and when do I need to allow for independence? Dating, parties, on-line behavior, what is making our teens vulnerable and when do we step in as parents? Do we need help? If so, what kind of help would we need? Join us for this innovative and unique event designed for parents to ask their burning questions to a panel of teens and experts. Parents will have an opportunity to ask questions anonymously, hear about normative teen development from a local expert, and have a tour of the citys innovative Youth Centre. Were all in this together, lets work together to look for answers to those tough questions! The night will conclude with a tour of the New Westminster Youth Centre.

Connect: An Attachment-Based Program to Support Parents and Caregiver

Connect: An Attachment-Based Program to Support Parents and Caregiver

As a parent, are you: Feeling stressed? Struggling to understand and respond to your childs difficult behaviour? Is your child: Struggling at home, at school, or with friends? Experiencing conflict, aggression, anger outbursts, irritability or withdrawing behaviour? Find ways to better understand what is going on for your child/teen. Rather than teach only one way of parenting we help parents see choices that support healthy relationships while setting limits. 10 week 1-hour interactive program that will support you in learning new perspective and understanding in your relationship with your child. Learn about the needs of your child and yourself, and find a balance in getting those needs met. Your group leaders will work hard to understand the challenges you face and support you and your relationship with your child. Parents who participate in Connect tell us that they feel respected and supported.
The Connect Program is Community-University Partnership between researchers at Simon Fraser University, the Maples Adolescent Treatment Centre and the BC Ministry of Children and Family Development.
