*ntroduction
)xternal *harmacists course is an on the +o& training programme lasting for not less than t"o years according to the re,uirement laid do"n &y the edical -rdinance #$%., part % section /0. It is a &road &ased training programme to prepare the prospecti(e pharmacists to sit for the examination "hich ,ualifies him1her for registration as a pharmacist and thereafter to practice the profession of pharmacy.

O+,ecti-e o. the training programme

The programme is aimed at making the candidate self sufficient and competent in running a retail1"hole sale pharmacy.

/dmission re0uirement
/ge should &e not less than #% years of age on the day of signing the indenture and commencing apprenticeship

Educational 0uali.ications
2eneral !ertificate of )ducation 3ad(ance le(el4 "ith '5 passes including chemistry as a su&+ect and 2eneral !ertificate of )ducation 3ordinary le(el4 "ith a pass in )nglish language.

 1uration
6rom the date of signing the indenture the t"o year apprenticeship shall commence immediately. The prescri&ed training record &ook should &e maintained &y the candidates. The candidate is eligi&le to sit for the examination t"o calendar years after such date.

Place o. training
The apprenticeship must &e undertaken at the registered pharmacy situated at the address appearing under section 73a4 of the indenture

*nspection
The apprentice should procure the training record &ook and present it at the (i(a8 (oce. The training records should &e presented to any !eylon edical !ollege !ouncil )xaminer of this examination or any officer authori9ed &y the !eylon edical !ollege !ouncil for assessment during the t"o or more years apprentice period.

raining
Training shall &e pro(ided the master pharmacist "hose name appears in the indenture. The training records of immediate t"o years prior to the examination is re,uired. It should &e certified &y the master pharmacist and produced at the time of practical examination. The !eylon edical !ollege !ouncil may inspect the pharmacy named in the indenture to determine its suita&ility for training and may declare the pharmacy unaccepta&le for training purpose of the examination.

6i-a$-oce component
)(aluation of apprentice training records. With aid of prefa&ricated dosages and de(ices. =uestions pertaining to all aspects of retail pharmacy practice and sylla&us including regulatory affairs, patient care and counseling. Written, practical and (i(a components are gi(en #'' marks and the candidate must score at least >'? or a&o(e in each. !andidates should complete all components in one and the same examination and achie(e an o(erall a(erage of /'? marks.

Results
;esults shall &e pu&lished in the ne"s papers and displayed at the office of the ;egistrar ! !!.
