HISTORY
In 1971, Erickson Lumber Company, owned by second-generation logger and entrepreneur Jack Erickson, leased an S-64E Skycrane helicopter from Sikorsky Aircraft and renamed the company Erickson Air-Crane. At that time, many small operations around the world were experimenting with helicopter logging with little success due to the high cost of supporting the aerial operation. Mr. Erickson realized the specialized nature of the S-64, and used his years of experience in the logging industry to optimize the heavy-lift helicopter for timber harvesting. His system proved protable, leading to the purchase of the rst S-64 in 1972, followed by the purchase of three more aircraft later that year. Erickson eventually purchased the S-64 Type Certicate from Sikorsky in 1992 and continues to manufacture and maintain the aircraft, since renamed as the Aircrane, from its facility in southern Oregon. Erickson has innovated aerial service capabilities over the years, broadening the timber harvesting capabilities of the S-64 and expanding into reghting, infrastructure support, and powerline construction. In 2013, the company expanded its global reach with the acquisition of Evergreen Helicopters and Air Amazonia, increasing its presence in South American oil and gas exploration and entering the defense and personnel transport markets. Erickson now boasts a eet of nearly 100 aircraft, and offers services, training, and support in many industries, including reghting, construction, timber harvesting, crewing, oil and gas exploration, manufacturing, passenger and cargo transport, support of defense operations, MEDEVAC, and more.

1972
Jack Erickson purchases four Sikorsky S-64s and begins to construct powerline towers. Erickson has constructed over 8,000 miles of electrical transmission towers across North America.

Erickson transports 1,100 tons of construction equipment and supplies over a four-day period in order to build an access road in Alaskathe worlds largest civilian airlift operation at the time.

1993
Assisting in extensive renovations, Erickson removed and replaced the Statue of Freedom atop the Capitol Dome in Washington, D.C.

In a series of wildres since christened Black Christmas, an Erickson Aircrane named Elvis became a national celebrity after helping to save 1,500 homes and the lives of 14 reghters.

2013
Erickson acquired McMinnville, Oregonbased Evergreen Helicopters and Brazilian company Air Amazonia, a subsidiary of oil and gas company HRT.

POWER UTILITIES
The precision of our aircraft, the skill of our pilots and crew, and our experience in the energy industry make Erickson the world leader in precision aerial heavy-lift operations in support of power transmission and infrastructure projects. Working with some of the biggest energy providers on the continent, weve placed over 8,000 miles (12,000 kilometers) of electrical transmission towers across North America. Our signature Aircrane has a rated lift capacity of up to 25,000 pounds (11,340 kilograms) and a unique aft-facing pilot station that has allowed us to develop a transmission line construction system that is costcompetitive with conventional methods. This system offers three major benets to contractors. First, it concentrates the labor force in strategically located central assembly yards, minimizing labor travel time and other inefficiencies and allowing foremen to closely supervise tower assembly. Second, it allows for precise tower erection scheduling, but with the exibility to change course at a moments notice. Finally, were able to set towers quicklyover 80 lattice tower sections a day or over 140 wooden H-frames. In addition to using the Aircrane to place line and traditional towers, weve also worked with wind energy companies in Italy, Spain, and Canada to deliver 144-foot (44-meter), 15,800-pound (7,110-kilogram) wind turbine blades to remote and mountainous terrain that is inaccessible to ground-based vehicles.

FIREFIGHTING
Ericksons expert pilots and a eet of specially equipped Aircranes are deployed seasonally to re hotspots around the worldat the ready when forest res erupt in Greece, Turkey, Australia, Italy, Canada, and the United States. These Aircranes, armed with 2,650-gallon (10,031-liter) water tanks, combine the capacity of a xed-wing tanker with the accuracy and rell speed of a helicopter. The Helitanker can drop over 25,000 gallons (~95,000 liters) every hour. Our ram scoop hydrofoil attachment rells from freshwater or saltwater sources in as little as 30 seconds, and the original Hover Snorkel design rells within 45 seconds from freshwater sources as shallow as 18 inches (46 centimeters). For extra reghting power, an optional foam nozzle water cannon mounts on the left-hand side of the cockpit, below the pilots side door, offering precision delivery of water or foam-injected water. Once the re has been extinguished, the Helitanker remains a valuable part of the operation, as it can deliver stabilizing Hydroseed to jump-start re-vegetation and prevent erosion. Ericksons Hydroseed operations are particularly effective on steep slopes and inaccessible areas.

LOGGING
Erickson started in aerial timber harvesting, and it still plays an important role in the business today, in markets including the US, Canada, and Malaysia. Helicopter timber harvesting with the S-64 is a cost-effective method of harvesting wood, a natural renewable resource. Timber is lifted vertically and own out rather than skidded across the forest oor. The benets of this state-ofthe-art forest practice include far less damage to adjacent stands of trees, soil, and riparian areas resulting in a healthier forest environment. In addition, timber harvesting by helicopter provides for substantial cost savings by minimizing the need for road development, thus reducing the costs of falling, loading, and hauling the timber. The S-64 is not bound by limitations of conventional logging practices, allowing for a greater number of harvesting options. Through the use of irregular cut block boundaries patterned for the environment rather than the machinery, the visual impact concerns are signicantly reduced, preserving the natural beauty of our forests. Erickson Air-Crane uses a highly successful hydraulic grapple system for the S-64, greatly enhancing the non-intrusive nature of helicopter timber harvesting. The Aircranes powerful grapple system uses hydraulic power to open and close the jaws in three seconds, and with over 42,000 pounds (19,000 kilograms) of pressure to keep logs secure as they are pulled up and away from the forest oor. From there, the Aircrane can haul wood to a roadside landing area up to one mile (2.5 kilometers) from the cut site.

SHORT-TERM WORK
Thanks to our extensive eet of Aircranes, helicopters, and xed-wing aircraft, were prepared to nd solutions for our customers short-term projects. Our innovative team can design a tailored solution for your aerial-lift needs, whether its an HVAC project, one-off moving challenge, movie or commercial production, or something else entirely. Our anti-rotation system prevents loads from spinning, allowing for precise placement, and a unique aft-facing pilot station allows the backseat pilot an unrestricted view during precision operations. HVAC EXPERTISE The Aircrane is uniquely designed to aid in delivery and installation of heavy-weight ventilation and air conditioning units onto hard-to-reach roof tops, and were particularly adept at installing commercial HVAC units atop city high rises. The precision capabilities of the Aircrane, combined with the skill and experience of our pilots and crew, has led to the placement of over 40,000 HVAC units onto skyscrapers, automobile plants, and aviation hangars across North America and Europe. Erickson has been extremely successful in the HVAC aerial heavy-lift arena. For example, an operation at the Toyota manufacturing plant in Indiana illustrated our crews expertise and efficiency, as the pilots and ground crew placed 134 HVAC units and seven exhaust stacks all in one day. Some of Ericksons more unique short-term projects include removing and reinstalling the Statue of Freedom atop the United States Capitol dome, rescuing an endangered rhino from the jungles of Borneo, and performing the Sierra Nevada Corporations Dream Chaser programs rst captive carry and test release ights.
