TABLE TOP ANGUS TAKES TOP GONG AT 2014 RASV HEIFER CHALLENGE
The Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria (RASV) has awarded Table Top Angus, exhibited by Tim and nd Jessica Scott, Champion of the 2014 RASV Heifer Challenge as part of the 22 annual Stock & Land Beef Week. The RASV partnered with Stock & Land Beef Week to present the third annual RASV Heifer Challenge, highlighting the quality of herd replacement females in seed stock operations throughout Victoria. The Scotts Table Top property, which is approximately 20 kilometres north of Albury, has 1,000 breeding cows as well as 150 black Suffolk ewes. Reserve Champion was awarded to South Boorook Herefords, exhibited by Peter Allan of Mortlake, Victoria. The RASV announced and presented the awards at a Beef Week Celebratory Dinner held at The Woodhouse Restaurant in Bendigo, which showcased the regions finest food and beverages. RASV CEO Mark OSullivan congratulated Table Top Angus on winning the 2014 RASV Heifer Challenge. The RASV congratulates Table Top Angus on their success in the RASV Heifer Challenge this year. We are proud to offer our continuous support and sponsorship of Stock & Land Beef Week through the RASV Heifer Challenge for the third consecutive year, said Mr OSullivan. The RASV Heifer Challenge received 61 entries and offered a total prize pool of $4,500. Entrants were required to display pens of 10 registered heifers for judging, which took place from Tuesday, 28 January to Wednesday, 5 February 2014. The RASV Heifer Challenge was judged by industry experts Gavin Wall and Noelene King. Table Tops winning pen had the wow factor; they were quiet, even and true to type for Angus heifers. The pen was well-grown considering the dry and difficult season and their overall presentation and structural correctnesss was extremely pleasing, said Mr Wall. All 10 heifers had conceived on first insemination and were PITC, which is something that no other pen entered in the RASV Heifer Challenge had claimed to achieve. The result really is a credit to the breeders genetic and nutritional management. Run by Stud Beef Victoria, Stock & Land Beef Week provides more than 200 beef producers with a unique opportunity to market, showcase and select genetics for their breeding operation.
