Low9armored Warhammers and Marauders were ery common back thenCenough that players held the Atlas in awe, and many actually followed the T". fluff about assault mechs being extremely rare, so they'd gi e you a frown if you wanted to play one. #ow days assault mechs are much more commonCusually as common as medium mechs for some playing groups. %nd a few assaults actually pack )."0 armor than the Atlas F;<2 for the )hunderhawk and Pillager, to name twoG. The Atlas has again returned to rare use, mostly because there are better9designed assaults out there, e en if you include the new ;<5< Atlas*s. The first real assault Q)ech to gi e the Atlas a run for its money came with the Wol" #ragoons sourcebook, in the form of the excellent )%19 !% Marauder ++. The +mp and Shogun also threatened the Atlas's position as king of the assault Q)echs. The T".S ;<,5 original printing said that a well9designed assault Q)ech was bad9 ass, but most assault Q)echs were not well designed.
