WELCOME TO THE ENTRANCE TEST 2010
Welcome to Entrance Test 2010, and to this exciting and challenging stage of your professional journey. We here at the University of Health Sciences (UHS) wish you the best of success as you prepare to sit for the test. With that in mind, we advise you to please be aware of the following as you read this guide: This document is the official Entrance Test policy guide approved by the Government of the Punjab. It provides fundamental information about policies and procedures of Entrance Test. We here at UHS will be happy to clarify rules or procedures that require further explanation. While we cannot assist you if you fail to follow policy, we can certainly help you understand any requirements that are unclear to you. If you have any queries about the process of submission of application form, you may contact the university during normal business hours. The university will not answer queries relating to the contents of the test apart from what is given in this booklet. ABOUT THE ENTRANCE TEST


The Medical / Dental College Admission Test (Entrance Test) is a standardized examination that consists of four (04) multiple-choice sections. Its purpose is to test the skills and knowledge that educators have identified as key prerequisites for success in medical and dental colleges. Beyond testing for the mastery of basic concepts in biology, chemistry, and physics, the exam also assesses general English language proficiency of the candidate. 1.1 It is mandatory: Passing Entrance Test, with a minimum score of 60 per cent marks, is mandatory for admission to any public or private medical/dental institution of the Punjab. Only those candidates will be considered eligible for admission who have passed the Entrance Test conducted by UHS. It is also a mandatory requirement for University Registration of MBBS and BDS students of affiliated medical and dental colleges.

2.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
2.1 A candidate who has appeared in F.Sc. (Pre-Medical) Part-II or Equivalent Examination, provided that : a. He / she presents F.Sc. (Pre-Medical) Part-I Marks Certificate attested by the Head of his / her Institution. b. He / she provides a Certificate issued by the Head of the Institute where he / she is admitted stating that he / she has appeared in F.Sc. (Part-II) or Equivalent. 2.2 A candidate who has passed F.Sc. (Pre-Medical) or Equivalent Examination with a minimum of 65% Marks (excluding the marks of Hifz-e-Quran).

4 2.3 Applicants of Azad Jammu & Kashmir and Northern Area (Province of Gilgit-Baltistan) shall take the Entrance Test of the Punjab for admission in medical/dental colleges of the province. 2.4 Applicants from any district of Pakistan, overseas Pakistanis, and foreign nationals can sit in the Entrance Test of the Punjab. However, only those candidates having domicile of any district of the Punjab and Federal capital Area (Islamabad) shall be eligible to compete on open merit seats for admission in public sector medical and dental institutions of the province.

3.

FORMAT OF THE ENTRANCE TEST


3.1 The test shall consist of 220 multiple-choice questions, divided into four (04) sections, namely: (i) (ii) (iii) (iv) 3.2 Physics (60 MCQs) Chemistry (60 MCQs) English (General for language proficiency) (30 MCQs) Biology (70 MCQs)

There shall be separate tests for FSc and Non-FSc candidates from their respective syllabi and books. The syllabus and model test papers for both groups are already displayed on UHS website www.uhs.edu.pk

3.3

The test shall be from the entire course except for English section which is designed to test general language proficiency of the candidate.

3.4

Non-FSc candidates taking the FSc test shall be disqualified and vice versa.

3.5 3.6

Total time allowed for the test is 150 minutes (2 hours). Each question carries 05 marks. Total marks, therefore, are 1100.

5 3.7 For each question, four responses (answers) are given. The candidate has to choose only one correct / best possible response. 3.8 There shall be negative marking in the test. For each incorrect answer one (01) mark will be deducted from the total score. 3.9 Minimum pass marks of the test are 660 (60%).

4.

RESPONSE FORM AND SELF-SCORING SYSTEM


4.1 The test is to be answered on a specialized, double-sheeted, preprinted and bar-coded response form. 4.2 The candidate shall answer the test by filling the circles on the upper coloured sheet with a blue ball point pen. 4.3 The impression of the circle filled on the upper sheet will be automatically transferred to the lower carbonized sheet. 4.4 The candidate is not allowed to detach the two sheets of response form before the test is over. 4.5 Only one circle should be filled for each question. Filling more than one circle for one question shall be considered as incorrect answer. 4.6 The candidate shall have to sign his/her response form and question paper before starting the test. 4.7 Dont fold or tear the response form. Each candidate will be issued only one response form. 4.8 Rough work must NOT be done on the response form. It should be done on the back side of the question paper.

6 4.9 At the end of the test, the candidate shall return the upper, coloured sheet of response form to the invigilation staff and take the lower, carbonized sheet with him/her. 4.10 The university will display the answer keys of the question papers on its website soon after the test. The keys will also be published in all major national dailies. 4.11 Candidates can calculate their score on the carbonized copy of response form with the help of concerned key. 4.12 The official result of the Entrance Test will be declared within a few days.

5.

CENTRES FOR THE ENTRANCE TEST


5.1 The centres for Entrance Test 2010 are as follows: (A) Southern Punjab Multan, D.G. Khan, Bahawalpur and Rahim Yar Khan (B) Central Punjab Lahore, Faisalabad, Sahiwal, Gujrat, Sargodha and Gujranwala (C) Northern Punjab Rawalpindi and Hasan Abdal

5.2

Candidates must mention on their application forms the city from where they wish to appear in the Entrance Test. Centres will be allotted by the University subject to administrative and logistic arrangements.

5.3

Centre once allotted shall not be changed subsequently.

6.

APPLYING FOR THE ENTRANCE TEST


6.1 The application form and the Information booklet and Model Paper for Entrance Test 2010 is available at UHS and all public sector medical and dental colleges of the Punjab from 20th June to 26th June, 2010 (including Sunday) from 08:30 A.M. to 01:30 P.M. as well as from the UHS website www.uhs.edu.pk 6.2 The candidate will submit the duly filled application from 27th June to 4th July, 2010 between 08:30 A.M. to 01:30 P.M. along with following documents: (i) Attested copy of Matric or equivalent examination

certificate by head of the institution. (ii) Attested copy of FSc (Pre-medical) Part-I or equivalent examination certificate by head of the institution. (iii) He / she provides a Certificate issued by the Head of the Institute where he / she is admitted stating that he / she has appeared in F.Sc. (Part-II) or Equivalent. (iv) Photocopy of F.Sc (Pre-Medial) Part-I or Equivalent Certificate (where applicable) attested by the head of your institution. (v) Photocopy of F.Sc (Pre-Medial) or Equivalent Certificate (where applicable) attested by the head of your institution. (vi) Duly filled Admittance cards (both copies). The cards must not be separated. Please paste two coloured ID size photographs on the two cards. (vii) (viii) Two self-addressed and properly stamped A-4 size envelopes. Three passport size coloured photographs of the candidate attested on the back. One to be pasted on the application form and other two to be attached with the form. (ix) Attested photocopy of CNIC / B-Form.

8 6.3 Candidate shall submit his/her application by hand. Applications received by post will not be entertained. 6.4 Candidates who wish to appear from D.G. Khan and Multan centres shall submit their application at Nishtar Medical College Multan. 6.5 Candidates who wish to appear from Bahawalpur and Rahim Yar Khan will submit their application forms at Quaid-e-Azam Medical College Bahawalpur and Shaikh Zayed Medical College Rahim Yar Khan respectively. 6.6 Candidates who wish to appear from Sahiwal, Sargodha, Gujrat, Gujranwala and Lahore centres will submit their application at University of Health Sciences Lahore. 6.7 Candidates who wish to appear from Faisalabad, will submit their applications at Punjab Medical College Faisalabad. 6.8 Candidates who wish to appear from Rawalpindi and Hasan Abdal will submit their applications at Rawalpindi Medical College Rawalpindi 6.9 On submission of complete applications, the duty staff of the university will issue the Admittance Card to the candidate on the spot. 6.10 The Government of Punjab has decided to conduct

Entrance Test free of charge. No costs will be paid by the Candidate at any level.

7.

ADMITTANCE CARD
7.1 On submission of their application forms, the candidates shall receive Admittance Cards (in person) duly stamped and bearing their roll numbers.

7.2

The candidate shall wear the Admittance Card at the time of the test. Without a valid Admittance Card NO candidate shall be allowed to enter the Test Centre.

7.3

Candidate whose duplicate record is not available at the university and is found to have forged the Admittance Card to sit in the examination will be disqualified.

8.

TEST DAY PROCEDURES AND REGULATIONS


8.1 Before heading out to the test centre, the candidates must make sure that they have the proper address of the centre. 8.2 The test will start at 09:00 AM. sharp on scheduled date. The candidates should reach their respective centres one hour (i.e. at 08:00 AM) before the commencement of the Test. 8.3 Test Centres will be sealed/closed at 08:15 AM and no candidate will be allowed to enter the centre after that. 8.4 The Supervisory Staff will check candidates into the examination hall one by one, according to their roll numbers, to begin the Test. 8.5 Every candidate must wear his/her Admittance Card issued by the university. No body would be allowed to enter the test centre without the Admittance Card under any circumstances. 8.6 The candidate shall maintain the seat assigned to him/her for the duration of the Test. 8.7 Candidates are not allowed to carry any textual material, printed or written, bits papers, envelope or any other material except the admittance card inside the examination hall.

10 8.8 Calculators, slide rules, log tables, geometry box, electronic digital watches, cellular phones, pagers or any other electronic gadget are not allowed inside the Examination Hall. 8.9 The candidates must store personal belongings, including telephones, pagers, books, handbags, and food in the secure area that will be provided for them. Candidates are encouraged to leave personal items at home on test day, neither UHS nor the centre superintendents are responsible for loss or damage to personal belongings. 8.10 No candidate shall be allowed to leave the test centre until the test is over. 8.11 No candidate shall be allowed to use toilet facilities until at-least one hour after the commencement of the test. 8.12 Candidates should not leave the examination hall without handing over the upper sheet of response form and their question paper to the invigilator on duty. 8.13 Candidates are advised to bring with them a card board or a clip board. They will also bring their own blue ball point pens of good quality. 8.14 The test will start exactly at the time and an announcement to this effect will be made by the invigilators. 8.15 A signal will be given at the beginning of the examination and at half-time. A signal will also be given before the closing time when the candidates must stop marking the responses. 8.16 The candidates must sign twice on the attendance sheet at the appropriate place. Firstly, immediately after the commencement of examination and for the second time while delivering the upper sheet of response form and the question paper.

11 8.17 For those who are unable to appear on the scheduled date of examination for any reason, re-examination shall not be held under any circumstances. 8.18 The following are strictly prohibited actions and will be treated as unfair means practices: Giving or receiving assistance. Copying another examinees work. Using prohibited aids e.g., cell phones, calculators, palm tops and / or any other electronic equipment. Attempting to take the test for someone else (impersonation). Attempting to remove a leaf or a part of question paper. Attempting to exchange your question paper or response form with some other candidate will disqualify you as each candidates question paper and response card is Bar Coded. Attempting by any means to duplicate, record or memorize test content. Borrowing anything from other candidates during the test. Creating a disturbance. Leaving the test centre without permission. Failing to follow the instructions of the supervisory staff at all times. Being in possession of fire-arms or drugs. Smoking in the examination hall. Taking away the question paper and / or response form out of the examination hall. Any candidate whose question paper and response form is not returned to the invigilator will be disqualified. Threatening any of the officials connected with the conduct of the test.

12 8.19 Non-compliance of these regulations and procedures will lead to the disqualification of the candidate from the test.

9.

ORIENTATION SEMINARS
Orientation Seminars on Entrance Test for candidates and their guardians will be conducted at Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Sahiwal, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sargodha and Rawalpindi between 5th July to 15th July, 2010. The exact dates and venues will be notified in the print media.

10. SENDING ENTRANCE TEST RESULT CARDS


10.1 The official result of the Entrance Test will be declared on due date and will be displayed on the university website: www.uhs.edu.pk 10.2 The result cards of Entrance Test will be dispatched after the declaration of the result. University will not be held responsible for any delay due to postal services.

11. VALIDITY OF ENTRANCE TEST SCORES


11.1 Entrance Test scores are valid for one year only. This means that candidates shall have to pass the test of the year in which they are applying for the admission. 11.2 Entrance Test result of previous year(s) shall not be considered for the subsequent year(s). 11.3 There is no restriction whatsoever on the number of chance a candidate may appear in the Entrance Test.

13 11.4 The machine-gradable Response Forms are evaluated with extreme care and are repeatedly scrutinized. There is no provision of re-evaluation or re-marking. No correspondence in this regard will be entertained. 11.5 The candidate having any complaint regarding the calculation of marks may lodge a written complaint within 15 days after the declaration of official result of the Entrance Test. No complaint will be entertained before or after that. 11.6 Should a candidate wish to query a particular question on the day of the test, he/she should alert the Centre Superintendent to his/her concern and submit a written note before he/she leaves the test centre. Your query will be reviewed by the university and you will be notified of the outcome within four to six weeks. 11.7 It is not possible to give special consideration for impaired performance on the day of the test caused by illness or other unexpected personal situation. 11.8 Entrance Test question paper being an integral part of MCQ Bank, shall not be provided, under any circumstances, for inspection to the candidate or any other person after the test.

IMPORTANT NOTE
The giving of false or misleading information during the application process, and any form of cheating during the test itself, are viewed as serious breaches of ethical behaviour and will attract severe penalties.
