VEDA VYASA DAV PUBLIC SCHOOL VIKAS PURI, NEW DELHI INDIA Dear Emily, How are you?

How are your pets? How is your family and how is that cute caterpillar? Im sure that all of you would be fine. Ok! So, let me start with my letter. In this letter I will tell you about my new session that has been started from 1st April. Yippee, now I am in 5th and my section is E. Our new class teachers name is Mrs. Asha maam. She is a very nice teacher. She teaches Sanskrit and Ved Path. I am studying the subject Sanskritfirst time. It seems to be very interesting. Do you know the history of Sanskrit? If not, so dont worry, I will tell you about it. Sanskrit is a historical Indo-Aryan language, the primary liturgical language of Hinduism and a literary and scholarly language in Buddhism and Jainism. Today, it is listed as one of the 22 scheduled languages of India and is an official language of the state of Uttarakhand. Sanskrit holds a prominent position in Indo-European studies.

The corpus of Sanskrit literature encompasses a rich tradition of poetry and drama as well as scientific, technical, philosophical anddharma texts. Sanskrit continues to be widely used as a ceremonial language in Hindu religious rituals and Buddhist practice in the forms of hymns and mantras. Spoken Sanskrit is still in use in some villages, a few traditional institutions in India and there are many attempts at further popularization. Sanskrit, as defined by Panini, had evolved out of the earlier "Vedic" form. The beginning of Vedic Sanskrit can be traced as early as 15001200 BCE. Scholars often distinguish Vedic Sanskrit and Classical or "Paninian" Sanskrit as separate 'dialects'. Though they are quite similar, they differ in a number of essential points of phonology, vocabulary, grammar and syntax. Vedic Sanskrit is the language of the Vedas, a large collection of hymns, incantations (Samhitas), theological and religiophilosophical discussions in the Brahmanas and Upanishads. Modern linguists consider the metrical hymns of the Rigveda Samhita to be the earliest, composed by many authors over several centuries of oral tradition. The end of the Vedic period is marked by the composition of the Upanishads, which form the concluding part of the Vedic corpus in the traditional view; however the early Sutras are Vedic, too, both in

language and content. Around the mid-1st millennium BCE, Vedic Sanskrit began the transition from first language to a second language of religion and learning. I think that this much information will be right for you. Oh! I forgot to tell you about my Annual Day. It was very nice. Our performance was the best. I enjoyed performing it very much. Is your new session started? So, now you will be in 4th. If your new session is not started so congrats in advance! I will wait for your next letter. Your pen pal Akanksha Priya

Hi Caiden I am glad to inform you that I have been promoted to 5th grade, class that is senior most in the junior wing. I have got many new friends and a new subject, GERMAN LANGUAGE has been introduced in our school. German is a West Germanic language related to and classified alongside English and Dutch. With an estimated 90100 million native speakers, German is one of the world's major languages and is the most widely-spoken first language in the European Union. Most German vocabulary is derived from the Germanic branch of the Indo-European language family. A number of words are derived from Latin and Greek, and fewer from French and English. German is written using the Latin Alphabet. German is the third most taught foreign language in the English-speaking world, after French and Spanish. German is the main language of about 90 98 million people in Europe (as of 2004), or 13.3% of all Europeans; it is the second most spoken native language in Europe after Russian, above

French (66.5 million speakers in 2004) and English (64.2 million speakers in 2004). It is therefore the most spoken first language in the EU. It is the second most known foreign language in the EU. It is one of the official languages of the European Union, and one of the three working languages of the European Commission, along with English and French. Among citizens of the EU-15 countries, 32% say they can converse in German (either as a mother tongue or as a second or foreign language).[64] This is assisted by the widespread availability of German TV by cable or satellite. I am very happy that I will acquire some knowledge of this foreign language. I would like to know your progress and well being.

Dear Michael I hope that you are in the pink of your health. It's been quite a time since I wrote to you. Exams , results and then beginning of new session all kept me busy for more than month. Although, I am in grade 5, I feel i must have grown tremendously. There are so many new things to learn. But, the best thing is our new teachers. They are really friendly and understanding which is making it altogether a lot of fun. I am now studying Maths, English , Social Science , Science and Hindi. We had been given an option to choose between 2 new languages, Sanskrit and German. I have chosen Sanskrit since it is the original language of India and is there in our scriptures, Vedas and Shlokas.. Till now i have really enjoyed studying Sanskrit and have made many new friends too. You will also be in a new class soon with new friends, teachers and subjects. I hope you too like it just as I do. Write to me as soon as possible and tell me about your experience too. Give my respects to your parents.

V.V.D.A.V Public School New Delhi 7th April 2013 Dear James, Hi James! Im fine here and hope same for you. In my last email I wrote to you about the annual day been organized in our school. But now I would tell you about my new session that is 5th class.

Earlier in our school Sanskrit (the mother of all languages) was compulsory from 5th to 8th class and then there was a option between Hindi and Sanskrit. But from this year we have been allotted the choice between Sanskrit and German which is a major language spoken in Germany. Only because of this option I got a chance to study German so I have opted for it only. German is very interesting language as it has some very different kind of phrases. In this year my class has got shuffle and I have got some new friends as well as some old friends in my section. I am really glad to write a letter to you. May god fulfill your life with total happiness but no tears. Your Penpal, Prachi VV DAV PUBLIC SCHOOL VIKAS PURI NEW DELHI
