T shows to students different menus What are these? T introduces the title of the new lesson: Please open your books at page 71. The title of our lesson for today is Eating out. T. asks Ss questions: Do you like hamburgers?, What are real hamburgers made of?" Do you ever go to hamburger restaurants? , Are there any hamburger restaurants in the town? Are hamburgers a healthy food? T. writes the title of the lesson on the board. T. asks them to read the menu very fast and see how

Ss will read the homework (Ss had to write a list of problems of survival in the Polar zones). Ss should recognize the menus

T. tells Ss how much a pound sterling is worth in local currency. T. asks Ss what they would choose. T. gives them a limit on the amount of money they can spend and tells them to choose what they would like to buy : You have 3 pounds to spend. Choose what you would like to buy with this amount of money!/ T. and Ss look at the information about the two people (exercise B/ page 72, textbook), go through it and check Ss understanding. T. checks with the whole class. T tells students to look at the pictures of Marie and Larry. T. gives the instructions and reads through the questions with the whole class. T. plays the cassette (twice if necessary). T. checks the answers.

Ss get into pairs, scan the menu again and discuss their preferences with a partner. Several pairs tell their choices.

Ss look at the menu and decide what Marie and Larry would choose . Ss share their answers .

Ss look at the picture of Larry and Marie.

To practise listening for specific information

Ss listen to Marie and Larry and answer the questions.

T. asks Ss to reproduce parts of the conversation they have just listened. Then, T. ask Ss to explain why expression such as: Would you like, Shall, Lets or What about appeared in the conversation. T explains the concept of a suggestion (when you want to do something with another person you make a suggestion, like go out for a hamburger or to the cinema). Thus, T. and Ss present various exponents of the function of making suggestions and illustrate with examples. T. gives the instruction for further practice: Ss are given handouts (Match the two columns to make sentences). T plays the cassette again and stops the cassette after meaningful chunks so that Ss can solve the task. Some Ss are asked to read the sentences aloud. T. and Ss check the answers 7. Speaking 5 PW

Ss. listen to the conversation and match the words on the left with those on the right. Ss change handouts with a partner and confront their answers.
