INTRODUCTION

Jose Rizal, a man with so many accomplishments. Jose Rizal gives all of us inspiration in all the things we do. He inspires us to be hardworking and diligent, which most of us are not. I am amazed that even though Rizal was in exile, he didnt mind the fac t that he was sent to Dapitan to live like a prisoner and yet he still manages to accomplish many things. He has taught the poor Mindanao folk to unite for trading so that they may become independent and free themselves from the Chinese and thus become less exploited, in the sense that he organized a cooperative even in exile. While many people would be in panic, despair or lose hope for any success in their lives because of being exiled Jose Rizal continued to serve his country This movie is a 1998 Filipino biographical film of the Philippine national hero Jos Rizal directed by Marilou Diaz-Abaya and starring Cesar Montano as Jos Rizal. Dr.Jose Rizal, our National Hero was a noble person. The movie was saying what was the real meaning of "Patriotism" that was being instilled in every Filipino's mind. The movie focuses on the condition of the society and also to the government at the time of the Spanish Colonization. With the use of the novels, "Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo" written by himself the Filipinos have been awaken to the reality such as the abusive ways of the Spaniards towards the Filipino people. It really gave the picture of abusing and oppression of the Spanish Government and also the Friars. Because of that, Dr. Jose Rizal finally realized that writing was the best way on how to awake the hearts of these poor Filipino and that the start of the climax, the start of fighting. Rizal didn't really stay being blind, mute and deaf in fighting the condition of the Filipino. He also criticized the Friars in

using the religion for abusing the people. The movie had successfully showed some of the characteristics of the Filipino like being brave and Patriotism especially at the time of Rizal. But lastly, the most important for him was to give his country the freedom and justice until the end of his life.

The movie pertains the life of our National Hero, Dr. Jose Rizal. Describing his youthful life, his studies, his life when he was endeavoring in the other country, his journey, his life when he was in Dapitan and finally his life when death was approaching to him.

The focus of the camera is very clear and it helps the scene to be seen truly. The pictures on the movie is clear. Obviously, the actions and on how the actors and actresses move is very truthful in the eyes of the viewers. the setting like mountains or hills, the farms and the surrounding are also clear. They also carefully used the technologies in order to give more of the quality of the movie.

The Jose Rizal movie is considered as an Obra Maestra directed by a Veteran Director named Marilou Diaz- Abaya. She is really a daughter of an art and this movie proved that. Her ways are very effective in giving the real happenings in the life of Dr. Jose Rizal. the movie was being portrayed clear and the viewers would really believed that it was really as it was before from the setting, actors and actresses and also the time.

We can really see from its whole movie because the story started at the jail. This happened when his death was approaching. He talked to Atty. Jose Taviel de Andrade. He

narrated his life from being a child until being a grown-up man. He also narrated his love for the country until to his death. The story primarily focuses on the life of Rizal as a good son, respectful and intelligent student and a true gentleman. It focuses also to his works in arts but not in every woman who got involved to him.Obviously, the role of the women before was they dont have major role in speaking but on the action that's very essential in delivering the message. Lastly, we can see here also the works of Jose Rizal such as the two novels mentioned above.

REACTION One of the strengths of Jose Rizal is the incorporation of the characters of Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo in the life of Rizal and of the Filipinos in general. This only shows that the two books are reflections of the lives of the Filipinos during the Spanish regime. But the thought and noble ideas of the book do not only live in the past but also in the present manifesting the universality and immortality of Rizal's ideas. The beautiful transition of Rizal's time and the setting of the two novels is really impressive. One must have really read the books to better appreciate the movie JoseRizal. While watching the film, I cannot help but relate Rizal to Crisostomo/Simoun, Leonor to Maria Clara. Rizal and Crisostomo both came from a well-off family. Both of them studied in Europe. Both have dedicated their life to free their people from oppression. And then there's a scene where Leonor was walking down the aisle and Maria Clara singing in the nunnery. Both were locked up for me to a person whom she does not love; the latter to a place, which seems to be a dead end. Maria Clara jumping off from the bell tower is her way to get you, her way towards salvation. The film also works through a series of flashback showing Rizal as a genius, a writer, a doctor, an artist, a lover, a friend, a brother and a son, thus giving a rich texture of Rizal's character. I also commend the film for its bravery in showing the evil tyranny of the Catholic Church during that time. Considering that the Philippines is a Catholic nation, that is like butchering a sacred cow but alas, Abaya works her magic in depicting the suffering of the Filipinos because of the friars. I particularly love the last scene of the film when Rizal, excellently played by Cesar Montano by the way, fell in the ground facing the sky, having his last breath looking at a beautiful sunrise- a metaphor depicting that Rizal did not die in vain.

SUMMARY

The movie Jose Rizal which was excellently played by Cesar Montano as the lead role was a heart-warming one that shows how Rizal runs his life. While watching the movie, I felt mixed emotions given the fact that it was made to help us Filipinos to understand what other countries and nation did to us and despite of that we fought against them no matter what happens and whatever it takes. It started by writing the novel about the cancer of the society. It shows here the character of Ibarra. After that they showed to us the bad doings of the friars that time, for example, when the friar raped the Filipina and also when they abused the children even the elders. Then it shows the KKK organization made by Andres Bonifacio. Then Rizal started to fight against the Spaniards using his novels. Paciano was abused here because they want Paciano to tell where Rizal is. At the start of Rizals childhood, he heard the things that the Spaniards did to the 3 Priest (GomBurZa). It also shows here how Rizal learn to pray, write, and read Spanish. Rizal went to school for the first time, after going to school her mother told him the Story of the Moth where the mother of the moth warn his son to keep away with the fire, because hes stubborn he go near with the fire and so he became burned. The significance of this story is that you must obey your mother because they are the ones who know whats good for you. After that Rizal change his name Pepe because their family are hot to the spaniards. He went to his school at Ateneo where he read the story entitled Caesar, because his pronunciation and good in reading he wad praised by his teacher. Here is where we can see how short Rizal is because he cant put his feet on the ground I he is sitting at the chair. He also study in UST where the Spaniards says that they are more

superior than the Filipinos, but Rizal fight them with his own words. We can also see here how the Spaniards punish, kill, and throw Ibarras father to the river that was made by Father Damaso. It also shows here how Rizal meet his defense counsel Taviel. Rizal fell in love with her cousin Uhnor Rivera while Ibarra fell in love with Maria Clara. Rizal went to Europe to study medicine and he used the name Jose Mercado.
