Doctoral symposia
At least twice a year candidates meet at a structured doctoral symposium at the Gold Coast campus or at an offshore location. The symposia provide wonderful opportunities to meet other candidates, compare progress, explore different research methodologies, receive advice from experts, confirm examination requirements and network with business leaders. Candidates must attend at least one symposium each year.
Assessment methods
Stage 1: Incorporates progressive assessment and examinations. Candidates are assessed in each unit on the basis of written and oral assignments. These may be business reports, case studies, presentations, research studies and/or plans. Full details of assignments are contained in the study guide for each unit. Stage 2: Units are assessed based on the completion of required assignments, including a detailed research proposal and comprehensive literature review. Stage 3: The Universitys Higher Degrees Research Committee oversees DBA thesis examination. It requires the thesis to be examined by two independent and internationally recognised experts in the relevant field of research. *The DBA is currently undergoing a major review that will be completed prior to the end of 2013. Applications will be accepted for 2014, subject to University approval. For further information contact enquiry@scu.edu.au

Dr David Cooke
Doctor of Business Administration (2009) Managing Director, Konica Minolta Business Solutions
I am responsible for the Australian arm of Konica Minolta Inc., a global Japanese company. This includes all aspects of the companys Australian operations and profit and loss responsibility. I am the first non-Japanese person appointed to this position. I believe that my appointment as managing director was heavily influenced by having a Doctoral degree. This showed our Tokyo head office that I was goal oriented, would persevere, and due to the subject matter of my research, I was thinking broadly about the role of business in society. My DBA research was in the field of corporate responsibility, with a specific focus on corporate and not-for-profit partnerships. I have always been interested in seeing an increase in corporate support, particularly for the charitable sector. I chose Southern Cross University for two reasons. In my opinion SCU had the most developed DBA program and the strongest support structures. The second reason was the high calibre of supervisors. I would recommend the Universitys DBA program to anyone wishing to further their corporate or academic career.
