Dear Friend, How much time have you taken to sit back and contemplate just how great God iswhat he has done his plan for mankind, his creation? There is absolutely no comparison when you put what God has done along side what puny man has done. Close your eyes for a moment and concentrate. Do you realize that youre moving at 860 miles per hour at this moment. Can you visualize that? Do you realize that where you sit in your chair youre actually moving straight forward because this earth of ours is rotating on its axis. Think about moving at 860 miles an hour. Is that really getting, you know, picking em up and putting em down, moving on down the road? Do you realize that youre moving at a speed faster than the speed of sound? Thats getting it on. Isnt it? Well, not exactly, because you see, we are also moving at 66,661not 62, not 60, miles per hour around the sun. So the earth itself as it makes its way around the sun is movingand were on itand were moving right along with it at 66,661 miles per hour? Now is that fast? However, when you think about it, how long does it take us at 66,661 miles an hour to make it all the way around. It takes a whole year! Why does it take so long? Because the journey around the sun is something close to a half billion miles583,600 to be exact; plus or minus a mile. Thats a long way, so consequently even when youre moving along at a good clip like 66,000 mile per hour, it doesnt seem so fast when youre looking at that kind of distance. We know that light moves at 186,000 miles per second. If you happen to have a pulse rate of 60, that means with every beat of your heart light has traveled 160,000 miles. That works out to be something in the neighborhood of 670 million miles per hour. Would you say that is fast? When you look at Gods creation, you have to wonder if there are other worlds and other people? Why not? There is plenty of room in this universe of ours for all of us. And we all live such short life spans and we are so far apart that theres no way any of us will ever bother any of the rest of us. So God has ensured that we will never know and well never visit and well never interfere. God speaks of his own glory being above and beyond and greater than the glory of the heavens. Then he turns right around and talks about bringing man, who crawls around like so many caterpillars upon the earth, to glory. Hes speaking of the kind of glory he has. It is sad and sobering that we occupy ourselves with so many little things, so many tedious things, so many petty things. How hard is it for us to keep our perspective?
