M.A.T. TECHNOLOGY
ith so many different wheels on the market, and various wheel construction terms out there, you may become overwhelmed. What does it all mean? While were not going to dive into all the different terms, one term that you may have heard more about recently is M.A.T. or Flow Forming Process. So what exactly makes this method of producing wheels so attractive? Well the answer is simple, stronger and lighter! Now you may be thinking, ok, but what makes the result of this process stronger and lighter? Dont worry, we werent going to keep the secret from you! The M.A.T. process of creating wheels, which was created by Enkei Japan, has a drastic impact on the microstructure of aluminum. By spinning the wheel barrel between two dies the process shaves the rims thickness, and therefore reduces the wheel weight. It makes sense right? Remove unnecessary material and the wheels become lighter, however thats not all!

The M.A.T. process also strengthens the barrel of the wheel and creates a product, which has similar properties to those developed utilizing a forging process. KONIG is a brand that is utilizing M.A.T. (flow forming type process) production for a few of their wheel models. Wheel models such as the KONIG Milligram, KONIG Kilogram and their all NEW KONIG CENTIGRAM are headlining KONIGs M.A.T. offerings! While the production on M.A.T. wheels takes longer and costs more then typical cast wheels, the end result leaves the user with a wheel that will can attack on the street and out perform on the track!
