This document is intended for ExaVault users who have chosen to use FileZilla as their FTP client. We will be covering installation on various operating systems, and general use of the FileZilla FTP Client as it relates to ExaVault and the services we provide.

This document assumes you are going to use the default options during install. If you have a particular place you would like to install FileZIlla other than in Program Files on your C: drive, then when you get to that part of the install, feel free to modify the steps below. No changes need to be made to any of the install options in order to use ExaVault FTP services.

1. Download the FileZilla executable (.exe)

FileZilla is built for Debian 5.0 (Lenny). It is highly recommended to use the package management system of your distribution or to manually compile FileZilla if you are running a different flavor of Linux.

Downloads for FileZilla are available for i586 and x86_64 (64Bit) architectures. Source code for FileZilla is available for download as well.

1. Download the FileZilla version for your Mac’s processor type (Intel or PowerPC)

2. When prompted if you are sure you would like to open FileZilla, choose Open.

3. Click OK and FileZilla should open.

4. After FileZilla opens, close the application and use finder to navigate to the folder you downloaded FileZilla to.

5. Left click and drag the FileZilla application to the Applications folder.

6. FileZilla will now be found in your Applications folder.

To launch FileZilla, follow these steps If you are using Windows, go to the Start Menu > Program Files > FileZilla FTP Client > FileZilla If you are using Linux, go to Applications->Internet-> FileZilla FTP Client. If you are using OS X, go to Go > Applications > FileZilla

The FileZilla interface is very simple.

The FileZilla GUI (Graphical User Interface) has 5 major parts to it.

1. The Quick Connect bar allows you to quickly enter the hostname, username, password and port so you can connect to a server and start transferring files and folders.

2. Command Output shows the actual commands that FileZilla is sending to the server.

3. The Local Site or Local File Browser allows you to browse your local computer for files and folders that you would like to transfer to the server.

4. The Remote Site or Remote File Browser allows you to navigate through the folders on the FTP server after you connect.

5. The Queue is used to allow you to upload and download multiple folders and files in succession.

ExaVault has setup a test account for troubleshooting and testing. This account is not intended for general use. If you have an account with ExaVault, we will provide you with your own username and password. If you are having issues logging in to your account, contact support@exavault.com via email or call 1 (510) 500-0245 and we will be happy to help you. The following examples will use this test account to show how FileZilla works with the services that ExaVault provides.

To connect using the Quick Connect bar, enter the address of the server into the Host field of the Quick connect bar. This example uses bobsmith.exavault.com as the hostname. Try to connect using the hostname provided for you by ExaVault. If you are having issues using the hostname that we have provided, feel free to use bobsmith.exavault.com.

Enter the username for your account into the Username field. This example uses bobsmith as the username.

4. Enter port 22 for value in the Port field. This is standard for all SFTP connections.

Alternatively, if you add sftp:// to the hostname, FileZilla will automatically know that you want to use SFTP and will set the port accordingly.

5. Click on the Quick Connect button and FileZilla will connect.

After a server has been successfully connected to using the Quick Connect Bar, you can connect to it

Make sure the Always Trust this host, add the key to the cache is checked and click OK.

You can upload or download a file by double-clicking on it. It will be added to the transfer queue and the transfer starts automatically. To transfer folders and/or multiple files, select them and right-click the selection. Then you can click on Upload/Download in the popup menu.
