What is global warming? Global warming is a phenomenon that occurs when too many greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.

The greenhouse effect is a natural process that trap some of the sun's rays in the atmosphere for regulate the temperature of the Earth. This happens when the rays enter the atmosphere. Some of them are trapped by greenhouse gases in the atmosphere naturally, and the rest goes to space. But when too many greenhouse gases, more rays are trapped in the atmosphere, and therefore, the Earth is warming and the temperature rises. This is the phenomenon of global warming in the last 50 years; the average temperature has increased faster than any other period in history. The climate system can respond to changes in external forcings. The External forcings can "push" the climate in the direction of warming or cooling. Examples of external forcings include changes in atmospheric composition, solar luminosity, volcanic eruptions, and variations in Earth's orbit around the Sun. Orbital cycles vary slowly over tens of thousands of years and at present are in an overall cooling trend which would be expected to lead towards an ice age, but the 20th century instrumental temperature record shows a sudden rise in global temperatures. The evidence of the climate system is manifested in observed increases in temperature on land and in the ocean, widespread melting of snow and ice, and rising sea level. Global Warming Causes Global warming is primarily a problem of too much carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmospherewhich acts as a blanket, trapping heat and warming the planet. As we burn fossil fuels like coal, oil and natural gas for energy or cut down and burn forests to create pastures and plantations, carbon accumulates and overloads our atmosphere. Certain waste management and agricultural practices aggravate the problem by releasing other potent global warming gases, such as methane and nitrous oxide. See the pie chart for a breakdown of heat-trapping global warming emissions by economic sector. What can we do to reduce the effects of global warming? 1. Adjust the heating and air conditioning. 2. Put two degrees lower in the winter and two degrees warmer in the summer. 3. Use less hot water 4. Change light bulbs to compact fluorescent or LED bulbs

5. Drying clothes outdoors 6. Use recycled paper products 7. Having a garden for fruits and vegetables 8. Planting trees 9. Walk or bike instead of driving a car 10. Recycle 11. Switch off electrical appliances when not in use 12. Buy a car that uses less gas 13. Having the correct pressure in the tires
