Better Futures Local Solutions


Local Solutions Fund Round 2
The Local Advisory Group is please to advise that the following projects are the successful Local Solutions Fund round 2 recipients; Local Employment and Access Project (LEAP). Organisation: San Remo Neighbourhood Centre Inc. The Local Employment and Access Project (LEAP) provides a way of working with families who have multiple barriers to employment. The service is located at Blue Haven Community Centre contact 43900897. DALE Young Parents Program Wyong Organisation: St Philips Christian Education Foundation The Dale Young Parent Program Wyong program is designed to assist young parents to complete their high school education, improve their employability skills and prospects, develop their parenting skills, enhance their links to service providers in the community, and provide individual career assessments and career advice. The program aims to address significant barriers to education for up to 40 young parents. For further information please contact 4324 4744. Skills For Work - Let's Get Started project Organisation: Toukley Preschool Kindergarten Inc. The Skills For Work - Let's Get Started project delivers TAFE courses for up to 60 students, in partnership with the Reaching Your Destination Program targeting singles and teenage parents. The Better Futures Hub project Organisation: Youthconnections.com.au The Better Futures Hub (BFH) project will supports young parents aged 14 24 years in the Wyong region to reach their educational and career aspirations. The BFH will welcome young parents and their children to a facility where education and employment programs are tailored to their needs.

BFH offers opportunities for young parents to complete their HSC education or equivalent while their children participate in early childhood education on the same site. BFH's vocational training and social enterprise will provide employment pathways for young parents and build their capacity to enter the workforce. The Central Coast Jobs & Skills expo


The Wyong Local Advisory group was one of 62 Exhibitors who attended the Australian Government Jobs and Skills Expo at Gosford on the 3rd July 2013. Together we helped to achieve real outcomes for the community. Approximately 3,300 job seekers attended the event with over 542 jobs advertised on the Jobs Board and numerous training opportunities across a wide range of industries. Based on feedback from exhibitors, approximately 328 job seekers will be placed in a job as a direct result of the Expo. Our local Employment Coordinator, Jack Ritchie played a big role in the preparation of the Expo. Northern Lights Family Festival


Members from the Wyong Local Advisory Group participated in last weeks Northern Lights Family Festival held at Northern Lakes Primary School. The event organised by the Local Employment Access Project (LEAP), in partnership with San Remo Neighbourhood Centre, The Benevolent Society and The Local Advisory Group saw over 500 families attend the event with in excess of 20 service providers. The focus of the day was on FUN, with ALL the activities free including face painting, book give-aways, haircuts for children, kindy farm, jumping castle and pampering for parents.

Headspace Outpost for Wyong


It is with great excitement that we are able to inform you that the Minister Butler has recently announced the funding for a Headspace Outpost in Northern Wyong Shire. The Northern Wyong Headspace Working Party, lead by San Remo Neighbourhood Centre has been successful in lobbying for this much needed service. The working party has demonstrated a collaborative approach to advocating on behalf of the young people in North of the Shire, and with the passionate force of local MP Jill Hall a favourable result has been achieved for the people of northern Wyong.

The Wyong Local Advisory Group member Expression of Interest


The role of the Local Advisory Group is to inform government on the implementation of a place based approach using local knowledge and understanding to prioritise local solutions. The Wyong LGA Local Advisory Group is seeking expressions of interest (EOI) from people within the Wyong community who possess; good community connections passion to make a difference skills in governance innovation & entrepreneurial skills good links to employers and business availability to attend monthly meetings and regular community activities.
