of knowledge. My intention isone of latter class. I am not new to the astrological enthusiasts
at least to the readers of Prof. B.V. Raman s Astrological maga!ine" in which my series of articles under the caption #
$ew %echni&ues of Prediction
# ha'eappeared since (e)ruary *+,- issue. I could ha'e straightaway pu)lished this )ook" without such pre'iousre'elations. But my sincere wish was that its merit must )e first known to the
pu)lic )efore the pu)lication of this )ook" as I feared that this )ook may )e thought to )e one among many already in the market. I had nointention to pu)lish so early as this" as all
my research work is not yet o'er and there are still many more wonderful su).ects under e/amination. But the urge of many of the readers of my articles has )een so hea'y
thatI could not postpone to a later date. As far as possi)le ma.ority of the principles that ha'e pro'ed true )y research are included in this edition" reser'ing the
rest for future. %hat what all I ha'e e/pounded is genuine andmar'elous may )e seen from the se'eral opinions of the readers who also had consulted me.0uring the past 12 years I
ha'e made a deep study of astrology and allied su).ects. My e/perience is that more you study from the )ooks that are in the open market the more you get confused than grow wiser. (or
se'eralauthors and commentators ha'e stated 'arious theories and commentaries" sometimes contrary too. Moreo'er"almost all rules are full of alternati'es" confusing one s mind. 3hene'er
there are alternati'e or optionaltheories" the only way of perfecting it is )y research and )y applying them to known charts rather than gam)le with the dictionary meaning of words. As research
work had paid well in the case of other sciences" e'en here it will ha'e the )est of effects and it should )e encouraged. In olden days there was royal patronage. $ow thatkingship is
a)olished" the 4o'ernment or some pu)lic organi!ation should aid. (or" no one indi'idual can dothe ocean wide research work for o)'ious reasons. (or instance" to esta)lish the cause
5astrological6 for leprosy"charts at a leprosarium should )e collected" for consumption at sanatorium" for mental derangement at mentalhospitals etc. %o do this" pu)lic help
and patronage of the 4o'ernment are needed. Bearing this in mind" after astage of study I took to research work and after a long time when my planets also were fa'oura)ly disposed
forgenuine research" some new flashes struck me and some ad'antageous situations arose of their own accord. 3hen I say this I do this with authority. 7'en a well-
read and proficient astrologer" if not )acked )y fa'ora)leplanets" is likely to go down at such unpropitious times. %his )eing Vedanga" all cannot hope to )e all
successfulat all times. 8ne must )e godly and )efore 'enture he must think of his deity and then proceed. (or" it is only then he will ha'e proper flashes especially in matters of alternati'e
situations.$e/t I wish to trace the origin of this science" its gradual de'elopment and its present state. All know that it is Vedanga. As Veda is spelled )y 4od so is this science too. %here
are 'ersions stating that Iswara narrated thisscience to Par'athi and $andikeswara to his disciples. %hen came the days of Maharishis who )y their superiorknowledge
and clair'oyance taught their disciples orally. 9ou may )e aware of one :apthaRishi Vakyam"meaning that se'en Maharishis had discussed this science. $e/t came the days
when some of their disciplestook to scri)ing mostly on palm lea'es. :o far this sacred science was )eing held safe in their hands. $e/tfollowed the days of 0ai'agnas who" though not e&ual
to the class of Rishi :hisyas" were of sufficiently superiorintellect and more than all godly. %hus with their intellect and intuition they wrote out te/ts. ;nfortunately it was
poetic era" prose )eing of recent origin. In the an/iety to maintain rhyme and grammar" they had to usesometimes words with dou)le meaning or e'en distracted meaning. %he author is
sure of the proper meaning of his writing" )ut when others read his 'erses 'ery likely dou)ts arise. Actually it has )een so and this has gi'enrise to many commentators 'iewing
the same matter differently. Varahamihira in his Brihat <ataka has in the 'ery opening 'erse said that due to hurried writing and short space he had to compose 'erses with words
of deep and multiple meanings. Anyone perusing Brihat <ataka may feel that there is nothing su)stantial helpingprediction. 8ne may e'en go to the e/tent of saying that his sayings may not )e
always true. I too held such a 'iew so far. 9et this is the first te/t &uoted )y all. Really it must )e a great and 'alua)le work. It is only when my research pro'ed good I )egan to appreciate the
monumental work. Very many secrets are there hidden. (ore/ample" a long =hapter deals with 'arious kinds of Ayurdayas. It is not meant only to estimate the longe'ity.(rom the
se'eral rays attri)uted to planets the magnitude of effects may )e gauged. I ha'e illustrated them in=hapter VII on finding &uantum of wealth and num)er of issues. >ikewise I ha'e
seen astrologers gauging othermatters" )ut they ha'e held them with themsel'es and for themsel'es. If they come out with those secrets they would )e not only rendering their
meritorious ser'ice to this science )ut would )e helping the pu)lic as well.$ow a)out this pu)lication. I had intended to pu)lish only the results of my research work" lea'ing off theelementary
portions to the readers themsel'es. But many of my friends re&uested me to )ring forth a self-sufficient and e/hausti'e treatise. :o" I ha'e attempted at it and placed )efore the
pu)lic in two parts. %his treatise contains 'ery many new points not known to many so far. I ha'e tried my )est to render the science mathematical. I ha'e selected only those theories that
ha'e stood the test in all cases lea'ing off unpro'ed ones. As my o).ect is to spread these no'el ideas" I feel satisfied if the readers follow my theories faithfully and adopt
