BRIQUETTE CHARCOAL

ESTIMATION OF CALORIFIC VALUE

There are two types of calorific values:(i) (ii) When the water is liberated in atmosphere the value obtained is known as lower calorific value. When the water is condensed inside the bomb calorimeter and it also contributes toward absorption. This value is known as higher calorific value.

Mass of water = 1.6 ltrs Mass of fuel sample + crucible = 14.021g Weight of empty crucible = 12.563g Weight of fuel = 1.458g Providing 20 times more oxygen pressure then the atmospheric pressure to ensure overall complete combustion of fuel. Energy liberated by fuel = Energy absorbed by water + Energy absorbed by calorimeter x CV = CP]

1.458 X

X CV = (1.6+0.75) X 4.187 X 3.18

Higher calorific value HCV = (1.6 + 0.75) X 4.187 X 3.18 / 1.458 X HCV = 21.46052 X kJ / kg

HCV = 21.46052 MJ / kg

Lower calorific value LCV = 21.46052 0.041159 X 2.256

LCV = 21.3676 MJ / kg

Dry paper weight = 1.3390g Wet paper weight = 1.399g Mass of ash = (12.7801 12.563) g = 0.1371 g Percentage ash in fuel = 9.4% Amount of water vapour = 0.06 g Amount of water vapour per kg of fuel = X 0.06

= 41.15 g
