2.2 System Overview

The AC500 is a scalable PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) developed by ABB to
serve an example of the markets shown below, from small to large machines. It is
configured using the standard IEC61131 programming languages which makes it easy
to configure, understand and maintain.

It features some benefits such as:

Ease of wiring the base components can be installed and wired without a need
for the more expensive intelligent modules.

Reduced stock the devices used are flexible in their application, which means
that they can be configured in different ways, reducing the need to hold stock
which only has one use.

Simple to install and scalable it has a scalable architecture than makes it future
proof.

Cost savings the system components are powerful and price attractive.

2.3 CPU Terminal Bases

2.3.1 CPU Terminal Base Overview

Currently there 3 types of terminal bases that the processor units plug in to. These are
the TB511-ETH, TB521-ETH and TB541-ETH. The middle number of the part
number indicates the number of expansion slots available, so for example on the
TB541-ETH there are 4 expansion slots, shown in the diagram above (far right hand
side image).
The ETH designation of the terminal base part number indicates that it is Ethernet
compatible.
Each base has a special hardware coding on it which is a plastic strip, stopping
modules which are inappropriate for the terminal base being plugged into it.
All terminal bases are mounted on standard DIN rail, using a spring loaded mount.
They are simply clipped onto the DIN rail and snapped into place.
Communication modules can be plugged in to the expansion slots, and all CPU
terminal bases support all types of AC500 processor modules.

Fieldbus Plug

mempertahankan isinya.
Jenis lain dari memori kehilangan isinya ketika power terganggu.

NOTE!

2.5 Communication Modules

Communication modules are mounted in the expansion slots on the terminal bases.
Any type of communication module can be used in any of the expansion slots.

2.5.1 Profibus CM577-PB

The Profibus DP module is a V1 (Version 1) master module on a Profibus network. It

supports communication speeds up to 12Mbits/second and does not require any
external power sources other than being plugged into the expansion slot of the
terminal base.
On board the module are LED diagnostic indicators for POWER, READY, RUN,
STATUS and ERROR.
The 9 pin D-Sub connector provides a interface for twisted pair wired connections.
Optional 9-pin connectors can provide integrated switching of the Profibus terminator.

206796377.doc

2.4.5 Ethernet CM572-ETH

The Ethernet module is a 10MB or 100MB auto sensing module (ie, it will detect the
speed of the connection, and automatically switch between 10MB or 100MB
connections). The module features an integrated 2 port switch, which allows multidropping in a network architecture. The ports accept standard RJ45 connectors. No
external power supply is required, in line with the Profibus module, and it also
features the same LED diagnostics as the Profibus module.
Rotary dials on the module are used to set the IP address of the module.
It is possible that in the future the module will feature an integrated web server for
remote diagnostics of the device.

2.4.6 DeviceNet CM575-DN

The DeviceNet DN module is a master module on a multi mastaer DeviceNet network.

It supports communication speeds up to 500Kbits/second.
On board the module are LED diagnostic indicators for POWER, READY, RUN,
NET/ MOD.
The 5pole male Combicon connector provides a interface for twisted pair wired
connections. Requires 24VDC power.

2.4.7 CANopen CM578-CN

The CANopen Can2.0a /Can2.0B identifier module and is a master module on a

CANopen network. It supports communication speeds up to 1Mbits/second and does
require an external power source 24VDC
On board the module are LED diagnostic indicators for POWER, READY, RUN,
NET/MOD.
The 5pole male Combicon connector provides a interface for twisted pair wired
connections. Requires a 24VDC external power supply.
