KAMMI has 40.000 members spread on 33 provinces in Indonesia.

The member are mostly university students like Gajah Mada University (UGM Yogyakarta), 10 November University (ITS Surabaya), Lampung University (Unila Lampung), Jakarta State University (UNJ Jakarta), Education University (UPI Bandung), Telkom College (STT Telkom Bandung), Diponegoro University (Undip Semarang), and many others. KAMMI today has 19 KAMMI regions and 72 areas through Indonesia 300 branches in college from the whole province in Indonesia and there is a branch in abroad which is KAMMI Japan. KAMMIs branches in Indonesia are in these regions : Aceh, North Sumatera, West Sumatera, Riau, Lampung, Banten, Megapolitan, West Java, Central Java, D.I Yogyakarta, East Java, Bali, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, North Sulawesi, South-West Sulawesi, South East Sulawesi and Gorontalo, North Maluku, and Maluku.

The Action group of Indonesian Muslim Students (KAMMI) was established in 29 March 1998 after activists of student Islamic predication held a tenth intercampus meeting under the Forum for the Coordination of Campus Predication Institution, Forum Silaturahmi Lembaga Dakwah Kampus (FSLDK) in Malang, East Java. Through intensive communication among campus predication activists in 1998, the activists are able to establish an intercampus organization that played a significant role in the demonstrations calling for the resignation of President Soeharto. By this moment, KAMMI took a part in this countrys reformation period.

KAMMI was firstly lead by Fahri Hamzah from the


beginning of Declaration until the First Congress in Bekasi on November 1998. The foundation of KAMMI is built here by focusing on the establishment of action on reformation period. KAMMI in its early period built national network, enhancing the historical role as students movement.

KAMMI in all regions in Indonesia hold National Youth Leadership Training which leads KAMMIs members to build capacity in leadership, intellectual, moral, and the Islamic worldview itself. This training involves national figures such as Fahri Hamzah, Jimly Ashsiddiqie, Andi Rahmat, Didin Hafidudin, Mahfuds Siddik, Ahmad Heryawan, etc.

Gerakan KAMMI Mengajar was established by KAMMI UGM Yogyakarta, appreciated in Kick Andy TV shows as creative social youth movement. Gerakan KAMMI Mengajar is implemented not only in Yogyakarta but also in West Nusa Tenggara, North Sumatera, etc. KAMMI members educate the children in rural area and build such an informal school. KAMMI moves in intellectual field with Gerakan KAMMI Menulis which creates writerleader in KAMMI to publish books, journals, and articles in mass media. Gerakan KAMMI Menulis spreads on Jakarta, Riau, Solo, etc. There exists also Gerakan KAMMI Membaca and many discussion forums about social, economics, educations, politics, welfare, etc. which hold and lead by KAMMIs members around Indonesia.

Through the dynamic of Indonesia democratic journey, KAMMI puts its struggle to be an independent youth organization in establishing the contribution to build better Indonesia.
