Polymer Lab Objective(s): SWBAT Run experiment, identify dangers, &report results in scientific form to identify common polymers. Engage Poke pin through a balloon with & without scotch tape. Explore Students will identify safety hazards for experiment & explain safety precautions. Students will make polymers. Explain Review lab tests and safety precautions. Elaborate Students will perform lab tests on their polymer and fill out lab sheets. Evaluate Students will do lab analysis & be asked to identify their polymers. Tuesday
Materials with a past (14.1) Objective(s): SWBAT Identify alloys and their properties & uses. Identify ceramics and their properties & uses. Engage Do materials science demonstration while the kids fill out the demo worksheet. Explore Find the physical properties of alloys and ceramics while we are doing the demo. Explain Discuss the definition of alloys, amalgams, ceramics, glass, and cermets. Discuss additional physical properties. Elaborate Discuss the uses of alloys, amalgams, and ceramics. Discuss glass and cermet uses. Have students give examples of all five, and explain why it is used for that purpose. Evaluate Demo Worksheet and Worksheet 14.1.
