Late Renaissance in the North, Baroque in Italy & the North, Rococo (1500-1750)

P-erspective M-odeling A-natomy + Consider the Nut! If Its Not Baroque, Dont fix It Rococo-No, no! -Monarchs gained additional prestige and cultivated a stronger sense of cultural and political unity -After the death of Louis XIV, there were many changes in high society -The Counter-Reformation was began by the Catholic Church in response to the Protestant Reformation -The reconciliation of humanism with Christianity that become to be called Christian humanists -The Industrial Revolution began

-Members of the nobility exercised their traditional privileges such as exemption from certain taxes -The works were about bibical studies -The architecture, sculpture and paintings created an emotional experience for the worshipers -The popularity of portait painting against lanscape backgrounds

Perspective + Consider the Nut!: Four Apostles -Two-panel oil painting -Saints John and Peter appear on the left panel -Saints Mark and Paul appear on the right -It shows their individual personalities and portraitlike features -The positioning of the figures are Lutheran

-Marble Sculpture -One of the great mystical saints of the Spanish CounterReformation -It shows an angel with a four-tipped arrow that represents divine love -It serves as the chapels focus *It shows the motion and emotion of the time period. It shows the faith of the Catholics toward Saint Teresa and their ability to show these emotions. It shows the ability to make a production of this mystical drama.

Rococo-No, no!: Cupid a Captive -It shows a rosy pyramid of infant and female flesh -It has fluttering draperies -It has leafy background -Its a decorative flourish into playfulness -Its in sky-blue light

*It shows the range of Italian and French Baroque with the dynamic play of crisscrossing diagonals, curvilinear forms and slanting recessions. -Warring cities of Rome and Alba decided to resolve their conflict by each sending three representative from each side to fight -The Romans sent the three Horatius brothers -The Albas sent the three sons of the Curatius family -It shows the Horatii as they swear on their swords that is held high by their father -The female relatives anguish in sorrow on the side *It shows what was important with the Enlightment believes with moral, noble deeds and virtue. It shows patriotism and sacrifice along with force and clarity.

Romanticism: Ancient of Days -Ideal classical anatomy merges with the inner dark dreams -The Almighty leans forward from a fiery orb -He is looking toward earth and unleashing his power through his fingers -A strong wind blows through his hair and beard *It shows how they used inspiration of their dreams to create their paintings. They were still influenced by religion and stories from the Old Testament. They still relied on the classical references by using the mathematical like the Greeks. It shows their quest for moving visions.

It shows how they are casually positioned that is consistent for this time period. It shows how detailed they were to create a realistic picture of real life.
