School of Engineering and Applied Science Department of Electrical Engineering Course Syllabus and Schedule for Winter 2014 Course Title: Electrical and Electronic Circuits Course Number: EE100, ID: 190397201-4 Class Room/ Time: Kinsey Pavilion 1240B / T-TH 8:00 AM to 9:15 AM Textbook: Electrical Engineering Principles and Applications, 6th edition, by Allan R. Hambley, Pearson/ Prentice Hall Instructor: Dr. Farid Mesghali Email: mesghali@seas.ucla.edu Office Hours: T-TH 9:45 AM to 11:15 AM, room 66-124A, Engr IV. TA office hours will be posted. Teaching Assistants: Hsin Hun Chen (hsinhungchen@ucla.edu) and Jinchao Li (lijinchao87@gmail.com) Course Coverage: The first six chapters of the textbook covering the basic electrical and electronic circuit analysis and applications, the core of this class and portion of chapter 14 operational amplifiers. Homework turn in policy: There are eight homework sets. The students are supposed to study the principles and applications first, and then think about and work out homework problems independently. Homework will be due on Thursday morning before the lecture. There should be no homework turn-in during the lecture. Late homework turn-in after the lecture is acceptable if the TA collecting the homework is still available. Late homework turn-in will only be accepted with 20% penalty if it is put in the TA mailbox of Jinchao Li before 5:00 PM the same day. The TA mailbox is located at Engr. IV, room 67-112. The homework solution will be posted after 5 PM the same day. Put the sections in order, box your answers and STAPLE all the pages. TA is not responsible for homework missing pages. Midterms: There will be two full period (75 minutes) examinations. Each of these exams will count 20% of your grade. Make-up Midterms: No make-ups unless you have an extreme circumstance that is agreed to by the instructor before the scheduled time of the test. If you are unable to see the instructor before the test, e-mail should be sent. That exam will be shifted to the final exam upon the instructors approval. Final Exam: The final exam is cumulative, cannot be missed or made-up and will count 40% of your grade. Please do not plan on taking the final exam at an alternate time or day because of your vacation plans, plane flights, etc. This request will not be granted.

School of Engineering and Applied Science Department of Electrical Engineering Grading Policy: Homeworks Midterms (2) Final Exam Classroom Rules: 1. The use of cellular phones, MP3 players and other electronic equipment is strictly forbidden during class. Cell phones must be turned OFF (not left on vibrate) before entering the classroom and must be kept inside a backpack, purse or pocket. Ear pieces must be removed and music players must be put away before entering the classroom. In other words, cell phones, MP3 players, video game consoles, laptops, etc. should not be visible in the classroom. 2.
