Dangers of meditation

-Torkom Saraydarian (www.tsgfoundation.org)

1) Meditation is dangerous to the man who enter into it without good character, with wrong motive (persona growth , spiritua powers) and ack of desire to serve. This is !ecause meditation !rings in energies and if the a!ove "ua ities are present, then these energies make them grow stronger .Service is important !ecause there shou d !e an out et for these energies !ecause they overstimu ate our energy enters which ead to disastrous effects. #) Danger of $stra ism This is a danger into which many we meaning aspirants fa . The aspirant may s ip into this due to the past ower psychic deve opment , during meditation. $stra p ane contain forces which act and !ui d forms upon desires. The aspirant through his astra senses hears, touches, sees, tastes and sme s in the astra wor d , according to his inc ination. The comic part of this is that you do not rea i%e that whatever you see , hear or e&perience is your own creation, which sometimes !ecome the vehic e of astra entities who perform an e usive p ay or comedy to eng amor and trap you. Some aspirants who have fa en into such trap think that the voices they here is the inner, true voice !ut when they o!ey, they find that their !rain gets weaker and weaker, nervous system shatters and they ose touch with rea ity. To discriminate !etween the True inner voice and that of the entities ,one must understand that the True voice never forces, demands, f atters etc, which increase ones g amors or i usions. 'hen some one gets into this trap then he must first stop meditation and focus on su!(ects which make him use his menta facu ty such as maths, physics, etc. )ater the aspirant can meditate and go !eyond astra p ane into menta p ane etc. *) The danger of +verstimu ation +verstimu ation occurs when a) There is an e&cess of inf owing energies. !) The vehic e of man do not have the needed degree of purification c) The man does not have a proper out et for service. $n e&cessive f ow occurs when the aspirant premature y touches high y charged eve s of the higher astra , higher menta , and intuitationa p anes. ,e may touch these p anes !y repeating mantrams, through taking drugs, doing !reathing e&ercises, !y doing ong meditations, concentrating his mind on certain centers, using visua i%ation e&ercises

premature y and !y doing meditation without o!eying ancient ru es or not having right conditions within him. Mantrams can a so !e used to "uiet the mind and invoke peace !ut if not proper y used they put the mind in a hypnotic trance during which any hypnotic suggestions may enter.

-) The danger of Discouragement Meditation increases our aspirations and s ow y revea s to us our future possi!i ities. $nd thus a great vision starts to !ui d within our sou s, fi ing our hearts with (oy and ecstasy. +n the other hand the growing inner consciousness shows us factua ity of the past and present and the uncertainty of the future. .ecause of this the aspirant instead of striving towards the future, instead of overcoming the past errors and fai ures, identifies himse f with the present state of inconsistency ,immaturity and his past errors hence he enters into a phase of discouragement. ,e may say to himse f that / The vision is too !ig. 0 am so fee! e. The wor d conditions are not suita! e for such a task. The past makes too many demands, and my de!t is heavy,12.and he fa s into enertia. The a!ove is not the direct resu t of meditation !ut is the effect of the high- eve energies re eased through meditation as they contact our unc ean persona ity vehic es.to avoid this the aspirant must go through e&treme discip ine and purification. 3) The Danger of 0m!a ance Meditation creates great aspiration and fiery devotion to great ideas and great visions. The aspirant often is caught within these high winds and forgets his ife of duty, his ife of dai y o! igations and karmic responsi!i ities. Such a path eventua y eads him toward spiritua se fishness, pride and one iness. Spiritua ife is a dua ife it4s a !a ance !etween spiritua visions, ideas and those of dai y duties, o! igations and responsi!i ities, never invo ving himse f so deep y in his higher aspirations that he forgets his primary needs and of those who are karmica y associated with him. $n aspirant must know that the spiritua ife is not a way of escape !ut a !att e at the front ine of ife to transmute, transform, and transfigure his persona , socia and g o!a ife in the midst of the dai y a!or to pay his karmic de!ts and to e&press his highest visions and his attained spiritua ity. 0f you are doing dai y meditation !ut not performing your dai y work !etter, and if your socia and other re ations ships are not !ecoming more harmonious , there is something wrong5 it is !etter to stop meditation and find out the rea cause. Some peop e after meditation for a few years , deve op a superiority comp e& and they tend to iso ate themse ves and withdraw into the cast e of their vanities. +n the contrary true meditation gives more unity with more understanding and we !ecome c oser to fe owmen and to the highest princip e.

6) The Danger of $trophy Sometimes it happens that meditation crysta i%es the thought forms of the aspirant to such an e&tent that he !ecomes a prisoner of his own creation on the menta p ane and cuts his re ation with his emotiona and physica ife. This cuts a the ife force going to the emotiona and physica !odies. Thus these two !odies !ecome weaker and weaker. Spiritua discrimination is to !e o!served here. 7) The Dangers of )ower 8sychism Some peop e meditate to deve op ower psychism. This is one of the greatest dangers. True psychic powers are the resu t of i umination, e&pansion of consciousness and ife of dedicated service. +ccu t teachers advice us not to p ay with etheric centers using !reathing e&ercises, !y chanting mantrams ,or !y concentrating on the kunda ini fire to raise it up the spine in attempting to deve op psychic powers. There are two type of psychism ower and higher. ower psychism is not spiritua ity .This ower psychism comes when the aspirant e&presses himse f from the ower part of the so ar p e&us, which is connected to the astra wor d. $s a conse"uence of this connection ,astra audience or astra c airvoyance ,auto writing, mediumship and so on come into !eing. )ater entities (dark ones, etc) in the astra wor d contact them so that these entities may communicate with the physica wor d. entities pass messages to the aspirant which are most y fu of g amor and mis eading, some of them may !e good !ut sha ow. 9 timate y the aspirant is used !y the dark forces and gets o!sessed and ater possessed !y them. During this phenomena of mediumship the aspirants menta !ody and the sou is not in contact !ut on y astra and physica !ody is in contact. So he dosent know e&act y what he is doing. This was predominant during $t antean and )emurian ages. To come out of this one must stop communicating those messages with others, stop meditation for some time, focus on menta su!(ects, and do heavy physica a!or, dark entities hate physica a!or. ,igher psychism is deve oped and mastered on y when the aspirant is Sou 0nfused. .ecause higher psychism is the power of So ar $nge . The fo owing are the resu ts of higher psychism 1) 0ntuitiona response to ideas #) Sensitiveness to 0mpressions *) :ight o!servation of rea ity upon the sou p ane -) ;uick response to rea need 3) The correct manipu ation of force

6) True comprehension of the time e ement 7) Menta po ari%ation <) =iery aspiration >) Sym!o ic reading 1?) Devotion to the ,igher Se f 11) @ontinuity of consciousness 1#) @onscious communication with your teacher <) The Danger of 0m!eci ity This danger is connected with the !rain. This is primari y the resu t of hurry. .ecause of our desire to get en ightened , happy, hea thy and transfigured we try to overdo meditation causing incoming new energies to !urn our centers. 0t is a ways adviced to carry on occu t work s ow y, consistent y and wise y. >) The danger of Misuse of Menta =acu ties Meditation deve ops our menta facu ties, makes our minds sharper, more penetrative , sensitive to the thoughts of others, "uick in response and action. 0f the aspirant instead of directing these menta energies upward towards the Sou ,makes them servants of his ower nature to satisfy his persona and socia interests. This is ca ed the path of temptation. To avoid this the aspirant must use his discrimination. 1?) The Danger of the :e ease of ,idden =orces Man during his a past and the present ife has !een creating count ess num!er of energy ridges (force units) around his core. These are created !y his !urning desires, aspirations, ongings and !y the pressure of opposing conditions. These are ike springs which can !e re eased anytime and with any rate. Aou can e&perience (oy or pain during this re ease. 'e can ca these as our ! ind urges, ! ind drives, suppressed desires and aspirations and so on. $ these must !e re eased for the progress. Meditation done right y re eases these and ets them come to the surface and the unfo ding consciousness !urns and gets rid of them. Meditation speeds up the payments of our karmic de!ts !ecause of this sometimes we may e&perience increase of difficu ties in our day to day ife. 11) Danger from Barious Cntities During meditation we radiate ights, co ors, forms and thought energies into space, so sooner or ater the dwe ers of the corresponding p anes get attracted towards us such as ange s, discarnate !eings or dark !rothers etc. To prevent this our vehic es must !e pure and with pure motive. Dark !rothers are not interested in average peop e their interest is on those who are increasing their consciousness as they move upon the 8ath of conscious evo ution. These dark entities are against group consciousness and prevent the forming of esoteric groups.

Most y these attack the aspirant through his c osest ones. So the group or the aspirant must !e very care fu to choose with whom to re ate with. The mem!er who is attacked must !e removed from the group !efore they destroy the group. 8ossi! e ways of entrance for the ! ack forces are desire for eadership ,criticism, separativeness, touchiness, a!sence of gratitude and sincerity, pride, ove of position and fame, ower psychic "ua ities , ack of occu t o!edience, various g amors and i usions, treason, nosiness and so on. The a!ove can !e prevented !y the harmonious deve opment of the three vehic es of man. ,e must ive in po ution free environment , en(oy nature ,woods, mountains, ocean, sunshine, etc. must e&pose to great Music, great art ,etc. S ow-motion in meditation is needed and rea watchfu ness and se f o!servation are imperative. 1#) The Danger of Cgotism Those who engage in meditation with wrong motives can s ow y deve op a g amor of greatness around the a&is of their menta ego-image. This image s ow y crysta i%es and the aspirant thinks that he has rare gifts. ,e ater presents himse f as a eader or even master without !eing ready. This wi ead in the future to menta sickness or suicide. To prevent this one must deve op the three great virtues ie, ,umi ity, @ooperation D Eratitude. 1*) The Danger of )osing the Sense of :ea ity This happens when the aspirant touches the ofty eve s of the intuitiona p ane 5 momentary f ashes of ight pour from higher rea ms !efore he is ready to appropriate these great reve ations to his physica , emotiona , menta , and socia conditions. Sometimes these reve ations para y%e him menta y and he oses a his interest in the ower p anes, in his duties, responsi!i ities, o! igations causing suffering and distur!ance in his fami y and socia circ es. $ny time the aspirant notices that his adapta!i ity to ife in genera , to his associates, and to conditions is fai ing or decreasing , then he must stop his a!stract studies ,his meditation and concentrate his mind on the duty at hand for sometime. 1-) The Danger of Satisfaction 0n this the consciousness stops e&panding and spins its whee in a groove. Cvery time we go into meditation we may enter into that groove, en(oy its sha ow depth, and come !ack to our norma ife, having the satisfaction that we did our meditation. This danger of satisfaction is very su!t e , and once a man is caught in its hypnotic spe then he remains there for ong time with his daydreams which !ecomes a hindrance on the path. Meditation is a progressive change of eve s toward the peak. 0t is a progressive unfo dment , penetration, and e&pansion.

The Ti!etan Master gives us seven points which can protect us on the path of meditationF a) Know Thyself. b) Proceed slowly and with caution. c) Study effects. d) Cultivate the realization that eternity is long , and that that which is slowly built up endures forever. e) Ai at regularity

f) !ealize always that the true spiritual effects are to be seen in the e"oteric life of service. g) !e e ber li#ewise that psychic pheno ena are no indication of a successful following of editation. The world will see the effects and be the better $udge than the student hi self. Above all the %aster will #now, for the results on causal levels will be apparent to &i long before the an hi self is consciousness of any progress.
