PREFACE

Capriole is an italian word for a playful leap or jump. It seemed
appropriate for the type of music you nd in this short piece, with its frequent
skips, leaps, tremollos, ourishes and volatile articulations. This music is set
against passages with a more lyrical or tranquill character, often soaring in the
higher register or utilizing the more fragile timberal qualities of the oboe sound.

The piece was premiered by the japanese oboist Naomi Kanegae-Montag on her
masters recital the 4th of December 2013 at Barrat Due Institute of Music, Oslo.

Duration: about 2 minutes


ABOUT THE MULTIPHONICS IN CAPRIOLE

The multiphonics was choosen for their pitches and not only their tone quality.
Since multiphonics are unstable by nature, and depend both on the oboe
manufacture and the oboist herself, Ive tried to choose multiphonics which
seems to work on most instruments and are easy to perform.

Bar 9 & 53

This multiphonic is morphing from a Eb in the third
octave. This can be done by subtle changes of embouchure
or/and air pressure.

In bar 53 Im asking the performer to trill while
performing the multiphonic. I suggest the performer nds
a suitable trill key keeping in mind that the aural
difference should be as contrasting as possible.
