Around 300 Sulu gunmen enter Malaysian waters by boat and begin to gather in stages. The group breaks into smaller groups to enter several locations in Sungai Bakau and Surau villages. Exchange of fire between Malaysian Security Forces and Royal Army of Sulu when the latter try to break a police blockade. Two policemen are killed and three others are injured. 12 members of the Sulu gunmen are killed. Gun battle kills six policemen and six Royal Army of Sulu members. Another gunman is beaten to death by villagers. Semporna put on alert. Crossfire between Malaysian Security Forces and "Royal Army of Sulu". Arrival of two Malaysian Army Battalions. Shooting continues in Kampung Tanduo as Malaysian Security Forces conduct mopping up and searching operation. Malaysian troops shoot one of the fighters after Sulu members opened fire. Explosions are heard. Residents leave their village after two dozen of Royal Army of Sulu seek supplies in their village. 300 villagers including estimated 100 children flee their village on trucks from Kampung Sungain Merah to the main road leading to Kampung Tandou. 300 villagers are displace from Tanjung Batu to a community hall in Tanjung Labian due to air strikes and reports of presence of Royal Army of Sulu. Air assault kills 13 members of Royal Army of Sulu. Conflict kills 32 members of Royal Army of Sulu . Police and the armed forces launch another operation in Tanjung Batu where the Sulu gunmen who escaped from the air strike on 5 March may be hiding or regrouping. About 1,500 villagers from these five villages affected by the counter operation against the Sulu gunmen evacuate to two community halls near Tanjung Labian. An integrated security team mounts a special operation, 'Ops Tayang', to brief local residents on security measures in the area.

79 people are detained in several areas along the Sabah east coast and questioned for possible involvement with the armed Sulu militants. Two policemen are injured during an operation against the Royal Army of Sulu members. 33 people are detained in mopping up operations for questioning. A group of remaining villagers evacuate after hearing four gunshots during an operation against the members of Royal Army of Sulu. The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) has been given the green light to set up a control post in Felda Sahabat. Malaysian Security Forces retrieve 22 bodies of gunmen from three operation areas in Semporna and Felda Sahabat. 4 bodies are recovered from Simunul water village in Semporna, 16 bodies are recovered in Tanjung Batu while 2 others in Kampung Tanduo.
