The purpose of the proposed multi-agency Pest Management Plan (PMP) is to manage
invasive alien plants and/or noxious weeds on provincial Crown land in the southern
interior of B.C.
The PMP applies to areas located within the Thompson Nicola, Cariboo, Central Coast,
Squamish Lillooet, Columbia Shuswap, North Okanagan, Central Okanagan,
Okanagan Similkameen, Kootenay Boundary, Central Kootenay and East Kootenay
Regional Districts.
The PMP applies to areas in the vicinity of the communities of Bella Coola, Alexis Creek,
Quesnel, Williams Lake, 100 Mile House, Lillooet, Clinton, Cache Creek, Blue River,
Clearwater, Kamloops, Salmon Arm, Revelstoke, Golden, Merritt, Vernon, Kelowna,
Penticton, Oliver, Osoyoos, Princeton, Grand Forks, Castlegar, Kaslo, Nakusp, Nelson,
Trail, Salmo, Creston, Cranbrook, Invermere, Fernie and Sparwood.
The pest management methods proposed for use include mechanical, cultural and
biological control and the use of herbicides within the area to which the PMP applies.
The common name and examples of the trade names of the herbicides proposed for
use under this plan include aminopyralid (Milestone), clopyralid (Lontrel), dicamba
(Vanquish), diufenzopyr (Overdrive), glyphosate (Vantage Plus Max), imazapyr
(Arsenal), mecoprop-p (Dyvel DS), metsulfuron methyl (Escort), picloram (Tordon
22K), 2,4-D Amine (2,4-D Amine 600) and triclopyr (Garlon XRT). Selective application
methods include wick/wipe-on, injection, squirt bottle, cut surface, and foliar
applications using backpack or vehicle mounted sprayer.
The proposed duration of the PMP is from May 1, 2014 to April 30, 2019.

Christmas Bird Count Report
December 30 was a relatively mild day with light snow
falling. We were able to break into 5 teams in our efort to
cover as much of the large designated circle as possible.
Birds were scarce as the large focks of fnches (siskins
and redpolls) were absent as well as evening and pine
grosbeaks. Tree species never listed before in 13 years
were buf ehead, western grebe and golden eagle. As well,
I was startled by the number of Eurasian collard-doves. A
fock of 11 was noted in upper Kaslo and 7 more in lower
Kaslo. Tis species has expanded from 4 to 18 in the past
year. As it is not a native species, its expanding presence is
met with mixed reviews.

buf ehead (1); Barrows goldeneye (1); horned grebe (1);
western grebe (1); wild turkey (18); pied-billed grebe (1);
great blue heron (1); bald eagle (4); golden eagle (1); Mer-

lers jay (4); American crow (33); common raven (39);

Christina Katherine Coombs
Chris was born in Fort William, Ontario in 1924 and passed away here
in Kaslo on the 9th of January 2014.
Chrissie spent her last three years in the Victorian Community Health
Centre. The housekeepers, cooks, nursing and clerical staff all played
a huge part in Chrissies care. The home care workers provided both
friendship and support. Thank you so much, all of you are amazing.
Chris loved Kaslo, she enjoyed touring Front Street, visiting all the
friends she had made in the local shops. She will miss the notorious
Caesar and Bailey Chicks and the Boyz who called her Ma and always
got her smiling and chuckling during their encounters.
Chris was a voracious reader, a bridge player and a cryptic crossword
fanatic. Strokes, dementia and Alzheimers challenged a beautiful
mind and spirit.

Kaslo Hosts Whiteout 2014
Kaslo Snowmobiling Invitational is a snowmobile fo-
cused weekend being held in downtown Kaslo, January 24
- 26. Kaslo will be converted into a snowmobiling mecca
all weekend with free activities around town, information
sessions, displays, dealer reps, trail rides and a live band
with dancing and parties at the Kaslo Hotel Pub.
Kicking of the festivities on Friday there will be a
mid-afernoon trail ride. Te exact trail location and
time will be announced closer to the event. For those not
wanting to ride on Friday, downtown Kaslo ofers many
boutique shops, bakeries, cofee shops, restaurants and
galleries to keep you entertained.
Friday night celebrations will feature a snowmobile
movie with some extreme sledding along with great
drinks and food from Kaslos downtown eateries. Te
good times are amped up at 8 pm when Blackberry Wood
( http://www.blackberrywood.ca/), takes the stage at the
Kaslo Hotel. No Cover.
Saturday afernoon, downtown Kaslo will be a lively
scene from top to bottom of Front Street:
Used sleds buy-sell-swap event will be at the corner of
Front and 5th;
New Sleds will be on display at the Kaslo Hotel;
Barrens Sports Shop will have winter clothing on display;
Info clinics will run from 9:30 am - 4 pm hosted by

Te 2014 BC Family Day Fishing Derby on Kootenay
lake February 8, 9, and 10 is now completely sold out. Te
2014 CTR Canada Kootenay Lake BC Family Day Fishing
Derby is the largest freshwater fshing derby in Western
Canada.
Tis year the derby is open to 600 participants not in-
cluding of cials and staf. Over 350 of these participants
are coming from out of town or country. Communities
all around the lake will beneft from this event with an-
glers spending an average of $400 for accommodation,
gas, food, supplies, boat rentals, fshing charters, fshing
equipment and so on.
